Because we have universal health care.
Because we have a great public education system.
Because we have cheap post-secondary education.

New York may be the "most cosmopolitan metropolis" in the world, but that really doesn't affect me. It's somewhere I want to visit, not live.

There's more to life than having an overcrowded city with lots of people. It's time to stop being so superficial about what makes a great place to live.

And yet the last two bits are utterly unrelated to the qualities of the City. Oh, the Irony.

Given the generally high rate of immigration into NYC, its obviously a more desireable place for more people to live in than Calgary. I always thought you were some sort of believers in the markets. Well, people vote with thier feet to go to NYC, well, at least the ones that matter...

Calgary at nights looks so, well, unimpressive. IOts like looking at San Antonio or some other burg.

As for some of the criticism. Of course Calgary is cleaner. Its easy to keep clean when no one is there...or when life is slow and unexciting.

As for the universal health care and actually half your stuff, it has more to do with the government in charge than the benefits of the actual City. If people in Calgary have to pay less taxes it because they had the luck to live near oil. Nothing to do with the actual worth of piss ant Calgary.

Which makes you wonder about modern economics, because how could the most desireable not be the best, unless we decide to chuck out the notion of human biengs as rational decision makers.

The point remains, half the factors of that list are not even connected to the very city, but the state in which it sits. And as for terrorism, that is a stupid one to put on- the more desireable a place, the larger a target it will be! Its like awarding cities point for being unimportant and boring.
