I would have thought it was obvious by now after 18 games of mafia what the reason for docpiling is. The point is that you piss people off by voting for them, thus once a pile is going you can either join in or attempt to start a pile elsewhere, which is a risk you don't have to take. Dead people can be as pissed off as they want.
