I don't mean here! I mean in society in general.

Wearing a hat means that you want to be somewhere else because you want to leave the eating area as soon as possible. Guys are expected to do this too.

What? Says who? Some people like wearing hats.

It's just that I've heard too many accounts of girls getting abused by their realitives.

    Ah, well that is different.

How can you say that one's gender determines one's worth and right to live!?

Then just replaced Apolyton with McDonalds or CBS. They don't like getting angry letters either.

        It's common sense.

        Ah, well that is different.
It is, but they have to realize early not to do everything their realitives tell them to.

You have problems getting the point, don't you?!

SOCIETY IN GENERAL. That means everyone that speaks the language. Doesn't mean McDonalds, CBS. It means everyone. Why do we have to censor?

          It's common sense.

          Why?

It is, but they have to realize early not to do everything their realitives tell them to.

Well that isn't very chivalrious . Don't get me wrong, I think it is very, very, very good that you don't fall to the trappings of chivalry.

          --

Shi, EXACTLY... that is why chivalry is wrong.

          • SOCIETY IN GENERAL.
Oh, you mean why to people have a problem with it. I thought I already explained that. People find it disturbing when little kids start cursing. Once again, the words also loose their affect. Some people view them as powerful words and it really gets their attention.

            Why?
It is impolite. You need to show everyone that you want to sit and eat with them and can be comfortable while doing it. Hats take away from that.

No, trying to get nieces into bed is unchivalrous. I'm not saying to not respect realitives, just don't completely obey them.

            • I gotta go as Laura and I are taking the little Lady out for a drive, but I would like to mention that the section about "accept pinches, hugs, etc." was in reference to how your child should perform during introductions. The book goes on a few sentences later to assert that the above was ONLY for introductions and such behaviour by adults at any other time should not be tolerated by your child, even to the point of yelling and kicking.

Sorry 'bout the confusion. I'll go edit the post now...

But WHY?! Why are these words considered 'powerful' and 'disturbing'?

It is impolite. You need to show everyone that you want to sit and eat with them and can be comfortable while doing it. Hats take away from that.

Plenty of people are more comfortable with their hats on. When they take them off, they are less comfortable.

But they are your elders. You have to respect them as a chivalrous man .

Because they aren't used as often. It's like how if women went topless everywhere, foreplay wouldn't be as fun for many guys, which would in turn be bad for the girls.

Plenty of people are more comfortable with their hats on. When they take them off, they are less comfortable.
They are comfortable with the had because it is seen as a divider. It is like crossing your arms. In the media, people with hats are usually far more secretive than people without them. This of course does not include sports movies, aside from the Natural.

But they are your elders. You have to respect them as a chivalrous man.
That has never been part of chivalry. If the elders are bad then they need to be disposed of.

That's a circular argument. They aren't used as often because they are considered 'bad'. Why are they considered that way? Because they aren't used as often?!

This is like paranoia. People with hats are more secretive? I don't buy that for a second. Why are hats a divider, but more clothes considered good (like a suit over shorts and t-shirt).

I'm sorry, but that is wrong. It goes against a Knight's code. The elders must always be respected.

It's not circular. People want words with great impact. This can't happen if every little kid says them whenever they feel like it.

They aren't more secretive necessarily, it is just that is how it come out to some people. Hats are different from other clothing because they are near the face. It is like having a collar up.

Apoc, I don't think THIS is why the words were banned. I think they were banned because Americans are prudes and don't like words for sex, and for some reason people don't like words for defication.

Hats are different from other clothing because they are near the face. It is like having a collar up.

And what's wrong with having a collar up!!

Since I have long sideburns, does that mean I'm a divider .

If the King is bad, you need a new king. That is how it went.

My, you need to revist Mideval History 101 . If the King was bad, you still had to follow him, because you were a knight. NO insubordination. The King was placed there by God.

Your reason is part of that.

Nothing is wrong with a collar up, it is just about the affect it has on people. I have long sideburns too. This isn't about being a divider, but more of keeping to yourself.

There were ways to get rid of kings, or at least making the best out of a bad situation. Some things they didn't view as necessarily bad though. And we are talking about Southern chivalry. We would have kicked Davis if the war lasted a little longer.

Unbelievable how this is a reply t oa thread with the title "When can I call myself a Southerner"

Note to diary: a thread with more than 40 repleis will most liekly be threadjacked and is worth having a look into despite a more than boring thread title.

Yes, I have learned that only now after 2 years.
