Inspired by this thread - and the constant rants by various people who, frankly, know a lot more about computers than me - I am (as of a few hours ago) now using Firefox.

I can't really tell much of a difference (except for the tabs...but why not just open a number of IE windows) - what is the difference for someone who doesnt really do anything advanced with their browser - just looks at web pages?

The main thing is it's far more secure.

IE is scary as far as security is concerned!

You should switch to Firefox ASAP.
        HAVE A DAY.
<--- Quote by Former U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt
"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

(except for the tabs...but why not just open a number of IE windows)
The good thing about tabs is they don't clutter up your taskbar. Like you go to a site like Apoyton Off topic, hit every eye catching topic with the middle mouse button so each loads in a new tab, then read through each one at leisure. It's simply a whole organized than having to use a whole new window for each thing you want to load in the background.

I have met a few people vehemently opossed to tabs and they claim that the way WinXP (and some *nix windows managers) stacks windows in the taskbar is just as good - but it isn't. You can't change between websites anywhere nearly as quickly. I think in reality they are just scared of non-M$.

              one thing I don't understand.

all browsers are free. Who cares who uses what?

Why does microsoft care if people use Internet Explorer? They offer it for free.

there isn't much of a difference, that's why I like it. The differences are behind the scenes (security). I still don't like the text box cursor, but oh well. And I have to click outside the text box to scroll the page down. But I've adapted.

I really don't care for tabbed browsing. I find it annoying actually. But not annoying enough for me to ditch Firefox and go back to Internet Explorer.

The text box cursor is fixed, and will be part of Firefox 1.1

The only thing IE good for is Windows Update now.

If your bank's website doesn't work with other browsers, such as Firefox, complain. Otherwise they have no incentive to fix it.
