        Tripledoc: I believe the Danes can marry people from other EU states with out a problem. Technically, aren't those foreigners?

            I think it is a bit complicated. There are several circles. Denmark and colonies is the dot in the middle, then there is a circle of Nordic countries, then there is a circle of EU countries participating in the Schengen passport union, then there is a circle of the rest of the EU, then there is a circle consisting of USA, Japan, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, then the outer circle consisting if the rest of the world.

            The further from the centre, the more difficult it is to achieve citizenship.

                      Anybody can be married before their 24, but you can't be shure that you are allowed to get the person you are marrying to denmark before both are 24. Especially if you are an immigrant and are marrying a person from the origin country you are in trouble.

                      Why this regulation ? Lot's of immigrant children had a nephew or niece in old country they would be paired with - often against their will - getting married at 18 getting no education, and a marriage that probably would break up after a couple of years.

                      The 50.000 isn't lost. You get them back when both parts are naturalized.

                      Btw, you forgot that it's also nessecary to have a proper home

                      The effect ? Immigrant children are beginning to get an education; getting married later and selecting husbands and wifes with a broader mind (horror : some even select a native)
                      With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                            I think I might disagree with you on many things*, but it is good to know some people recognize the value of honesty (even if it is relative honesty) and, above all, competence.

                            Though, current talks with my family and friends can only narrow Bush down to one of the worst 3 presidents ever. Buchanan and Hoover are possibly beating him (though, I think Bush is worse than Hoover).

                            Oh, for those that don't know, Buchanan is the one that, when the South was threatening to leave decided "it's not my problem" and did nothing to hold the nation together during his last few months in office.

                            *Since I label myself a "socialist", but perhaps am best described as a pragmatic progressive.
                            "If there's a child on the south side of Chicago who can't read, that matters to me, even if it's not my child. If there's a senior citizen somewhere who can't pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it's not my grandmother. If there's an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties. It's that fundamental belief -- I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper -- that makes this country work." - Barack Obama

                              @Blackcat.

                              The vast majority being hit by the immigration laws are ethnic Danes marrying foreigners, not immigrants.

                              And it is not neccesarily true that you get the money back. For instance it has been proposed that if people don't learn Danish within 3 years the state will subtract 30.000.

                              Furthermore you have to put the money as a bank security. This means that you don't get any interest from it. In fact you have to pay 1500 a year to have them at the disposal of the state.

                                That's a solid term. I would like to think of myself in a similar way, if I had to applly a label.
