Molestation nothing... I notice how you don't protest that Lucas named "Star Wars" as "Episode IV - A New Hope", which was definetly not in the original movie and was only added after the first movie became a success to indicate that it was part of a bigger story.

Was he not in fact in cahoots with the trade federation and the faction which obstructed chancellor Valorans' (sp) attempt to mount a rescue of Naboo? Palpatine exploited an already crippling problem with the system. When it gets so bad that a Corporate Entity can unilaterally invade a Planet that's a memberof the Republic, then the Government is in the crapper regardless.

OTOH a legislature composed of thousands of members would probably not work very well. It would make more sense to organize star systems into "states" which would send their own represntatives to the central legislature.

Except, those Senators you saw weren't representing systems, they were representing sectors. In a Galaxy with Millions of inhabited worlds and no central military, it's amazing it didn't erupt into a full blown civil war before the Clone Wars. (it's worth noting that The Secessionists were led by a Jedi who left the Order. Presumably, this made him less likely to be "Influenced" by the Jedi, when they came a-knocking.)

There is a second, crumbling, evil empire, Lawrence. It has hung on despite the death of it's emperor 21 years ago, even enjoying a few moments as glorious as those it reveled in under the dead drunk, but is a shell of its former self. Recently, its sophomore pretender to the crown, Mike Shula, despite his impeccable lineage, has made it only too clear that this empire has not much longer to be a blight on our world. Welcome to the ash heap of history, University of Alabama, may you rot like the Bear.

At least his remains have been put to good use, keeping worms inebriated since 1983.
