By voicing their democratic wishes to let the man end his term? There are general elections in two years- maybe the opposition should start preparing for those, to prove to that majority that voted against them that if they get back into power they won't missrule like they had for the previous 50 year before Chavez.

I have no problem saying that the Venezuelans chose very poorly (it seems obvious to my non-commie eyes), but it's their choice.

            I agree.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

NO, but they do need to get re-elected if they want more than one, you know.

For a nation that says 'we don't lose much of anything' alot in that I-don't-really-care-anyway-chap,it's-no-skin-off-my-nose sort of way, you sure do get agitated whenever a little nation somewhere southside decides to run itself in a way you can't commercialy or strategicaly exploit...

It'd be better if you did lose something vital if Chavez retains his win, then at least it wouldn't seem as if the US is just greedy and power-hungry for greed and power-hungryness sake.

Chavez is in his second term, anyway. He was originally elected in 1998 to a two-year term, and then they changed the constitution to give the president a 6-year term. Chavez then won re-election in 2000.

The Venezuelan right is really flailing and frothing now.

                  • The Venezuelan left needs their own media outlets.

I wonder if a revolution is in Venezuela's future.

By the way, how does a nation of mostly poor people lose alot by voting for a President who has promised (and already delivered) things like free medical care education programs and involving the military in civic-aid projects (as opposed to right-wing pro-American groups who preffer it when South American militaries stick to civic torture, death-squads and oppresion).

I mean, how is that a loss for the average Venezualan?

Republicans don't care about average people.

                          • That's the only avenue left for them, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

                              • The problem with Chavez's "revolution" is that it seems, largely, to be driven by him alone. He isn't a true leader of a movement, but rather he has many followers who support HIM. I hear little about a number two guy, someone to carry on after he's gone, etc.
