  • Do you keep the Sabbath?

    I try to, often

of course I am not very good at it

I am an SDA, and we keep the Sabbath (Saturday), as do the Jews (a couple other christian denominations also keep it, we actually got it from one of them)

other christian groups seem to not keep sunday in the same sort of way (considering it a holy day) although a few do

I think that it is impotant for everyone, even atheists, to keep a day of rest, where you take a break from the hustle and bustle of life

Well, as a student, the problem is in that there is frequently stuff due Monday. And usually Saturday I'm too tired to do it from a busy previous week and I like to try to have fun on Saturdays. That basically means I have to work Sundays.

        What do you mean?

Almost all Christian churches keep a sabbath, whether on Saturday, or Sunday.

What do you mean by keeping the sabbath? As a day of rest from your other duties, I can see this.

I used to work for a delivery company on Saturdays and Sundays after requesting to change the schedule many times. I would end up going to church first thing in the morning, and then working, and resting on Monday.

Since then, I haven't worked on Sunday.

As for students, just because something is due on Monday doesn't mean you have to do it on Sunday. I know sometimes it can't be helped, and I've done work on Sunday, however, I find myself more efficient with the day off then not taking one.

I have only studied on the Sabbath (which is Saturday) once or twice (and I feel bad about both times)

I have only shopped once or twice (also feel that it was wrong)

I use to not watch TV or play Video games, still try to keep the TV watching down to a minimum (decided to play video games when I found that I spent a lot of time thinking about them anyway, still somedays feel like I should not)

by keeping I guess I mean refrain from work, and causing other people to work (as much as possible)

I am a Christian, I teach Sunday School and I am also an Ordained Deacon. What i would like to share about the "Sabbath" is God states to keep it Holy. Sometimes we have to get the ox out of the ditch...

I say this because I believe in setting aside time for my Lord and Savior and Father in Heaven.

But lets not forget why we have the Sabbath:

To Honor our Father in Heaven. How much more honorable is it to help someone out in "HIS" name?

I just share because some people get caught up in "RELIGIOUS" activities such as going to Sunday School and then to Worship services, passing by the stranded motorists or poor soul needing help and then on to a restaurant but when it comes to so called "WORK" as a vocation they say "NO" because God intended the Sabbath as a day of Rest?

Ok, what is the difference between the person working bussing tables or cooking the food on a sabbath (be it they be Christian or not) and you actually, say, making a delivery on that Sabbath?

Are youn not causing that person to "SIN" by eating at that restaurant? I am not saying its a SIN I am just saying people whom say you shouldnt work on the Sabbath should also not prepare a meal or go to a restaurant and have someone else do it either.

God states that if you have Sin in your heart then you Sin, you dont actually have to 'DO" something as in steal or do dope to SIN..

Your heart is what God wants pure. This is a fact. Working on the Sabbath is not necessarily a sinful thing. it could be if you are not trying to honor our Creator.

I just share as a way to witness that working on a Sabbath is not, in and of itself, a SIN or not honoring God.

                Peace

                Brother Bruce

Used to be atheist, then agnostic, now I'm headed in a strange individualistic monotheistic direction. I was brought up as a Jew so I keep Saturdays for the most part and say prayers at Shabbat when on my own out of respect for my family.

I feel that rationality has its limits, that there is something "else", but that I cannot find that with a text, or a particular institution.
