In Florida in 2000, the Republican governor and the Republican Secretary of State contracted with some non-governmental company (nonpartisan I'm sure....).

You want to solve the Florida voting problem? The answer is simple, have a test at registration that requires that voters have a minimum ability to recognize who they're voting for, what year it is, what country they're in, the names of a few of the people who are actually on the ballot, etc.

The Dems of course will never go for it. Why? Because too many of their supporters are illiterate peons who care nothing for this country except getting their handouts or brain-dead victims of aging who cant even figure out how to punch a hole in a card.

I wanted to elaborate, but Guynemer just puts it better...

"Let me break this down for you, fresh from algebra II. A 95% chance to win 5 times means a (95*5) chance to win = 475% chance to win." Wiglaf, Court jester or hayseed, you judge.

And how would this solve the problems of selectively purging the voter rolls of blacks on spurious grounds, or mysteriously counting thousands of opened ballots postmarked after the election, or the host of other illegalities involved in the 2004 election?

It's no worse (and probably better) than what Agathon says about the Republicans.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Well, I'm used to Agathon trolling. Spencer is usually a bit more measured in what he writes.

The US in terms of gendered terminology is the Motherland, and The Reagan approves.
In English nouns don't have genders. Motherland/Fatherland is used to translate foreign words for homeland and keep the gender. Most languages word for fatherland doesn't include "father" in it, it just happens to be a masculine noun. German is different, I guess because Land is neutral.
