  • Everything in the Passion COULD have happened, too.

    edit: And this...

All of it COULD have happened.

... isn't actually true. Braveheart was full of proven falsehoods, the Battle of Stirling Bridge (where's the bridge?) being the most notable.

When have you ever seen anyone get up and walk around 3 days after being crucified?

When have I ever seen a person be crucified? It must be impossible, since I've never seen it...

That doesn't happen in the Passion, Boris.

No, I didn't like (a good deal of) Braveheart because it was just poorly done.

I haven't seen the film, so I can't say for sure, but the consensus among my colleagues is that the film is certainly geared to believers and that it's not a question of "suspending belief," it's a question of having no interest in the message being portrayed. Since Gibson's professed intent is to show folks how Jesus died horribly supposedly because of our being sinners, it's not to hard to understand why people who don't buy into that notion won't be moved by it in that way.

So, that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. You are the one who said you have suspend belief to watch The Passion.

So if that's possible, what ISN'T possible? You seem to have an arbitrary sense of what is "believable."

At least mine is based on what's empirically shown to be true, which is that dead people don't get up and walk around after 3 days.

Limits like that tend to get stretched when the person in question is the Son of God.

Define 'empirical.' What needs to be done to show that something is empirically true?

So basically, you're such a staunch atheist that you can't even pretend that Jesus may have been the son of God for the course of a two hour movie. That's fine, I guess.

I would take issue with your description of the movie as "only for believers", however. I'm not a believer. I would really like to see this movie, however, as do many of my non-believing friends. I think I can suspend my disbelief and accept the simple premise of the film in order to be able to understand what Gibson is trying to say. If you can't do that, fine, but don't try to paint all non-believers as being so narrow-minded.

You have to suspend disbelief to watch almost every movie. I don't see why the Passion should be held to a different standard.

Which is proved how? The Bible said he did this and the only "proof" for the fact that he's the son of god is the very same book.
