Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I´m convinced that these on-liners oftenly aren´t caused by the lack of arguments, but by missing english words or grammar knowledge.
Unfortunately I'm not quite as eloquent in english as I am in german, but that wouldn't stop me from making long posts. Nor does a lack of arguments.
It's simply the lack of anything posted here that deserves a more elaborate discussion.

Come on, che and Spiff: don;t become irrelevant like GP. Iran is not as dmneocraticas the US. It is a theocraticrepublic. Ayatollahs still control the moeans of internal violence, and the conservaitve ones that care more about the thoecratic than the republic part of the state are not shy about using them.
Of course. The question is, however, where does it go from here? The democratic elements in the system are promising IMO.
To fully appreciate that, one has to consider that western democracy is not simple majority rule. We have several elements that, while not being theocratic, are value-based: constitutional rights, first and foremost. While I don't share this view, it is easy to see them as judeo-christian values in enlightenment clothing. And we often have a judiciary that we see as guardians of those values. And the sacrosanct democratic majority is dubbed mob rule when we fundamentally disagree with it.
Our model won't be transplanted 1:1 into the islamic world. It even didn't in Japan or other east asian countries, although their idea of the "state" would make it much easier. So democracy in the islamic world has to take some form of open islam into account - US bombs are a very poor supplement for the 200 or 300 years of learning that the west got when it struggled with its religious questions.
A propos... when England developped its democratic institutions, it had a state religion and the test act. So us westerners should be a bit less condescending on that issue.
