I think we have at least one very real advantage in the people we have assembled. Our team itself is by far our greatest asset, it has had resounding success with the "Project" threads, we started in the worst of the three spots on our continent and have managed to make the most out of it - the fact that we are even in a position to grant Imperio's ridiculous concessions and still come out above par with them is phenominal!

I'm sad I missed the discussion (flipping meetings) but I can see why we reached the consensus we did. It is indeed going to be interesting to see what Banana says when next they contact us.

I'm also going to renew my suggestion of appointing a pillaging party of knights to strip bare the Templars lands which Imperio are targetting for themselves ... there's no mention of that in the agreement.

I suggest to send sooooo's acceptance statement right away.
I would be very surprised if they accept in game peace before our 16 hours are up!

I say we accept the deal, but if they renege on Gunpowder, IMO that gives us right to cancel the whole treaty.

We don't have to TELL them that, but if they do that, I say we give them the impression that the 40 turn NAP is in place, but violate it at our leisure (since the whole agreement is void)

Indeed regoarrarr. But we should be mindful of THEM reneging the deal too. If they don't give us gunpowder, on the turn we take Jerusalem or maybe after the 10 turns of peace expires, we need to shift units back to cape town to put up a defence.

              email sent:
              Dear Imperio,

We agree to your terms. It is tough, but we value peace with you over the templar cities.

We have proposed peace in-game. Please accept the deal in-game either this turn or before our 16 hours are complete next turn. It is in your interests to do this right away so we can move in on Jerusalem quickly.

              Saludos Imperio,

                  Cool, I'll offer peace in-game.

                  EDIT: done.

If we want to have a game-enforced NAP, can we gift 1 gold back and forth each turn? Then at least we'll have 10 turns of warning before they break the NAP.

At least that got me chuckle.
                      Thanks.

I am off for an evening of Doppelkopf now.

How about if we go full steam on Jerusalem, capture it and instantly hand it over to Imperio? Our units will be kicked out and Templars can walk in and take it back instantly. Then we ask Imperio nicely for Gunpowder in order to take it again.

If they don't accept Jerusalem when offered then that's their problem, and we get to keep it.

The whole tech trading (Imperio, PAL, Banana) took place in less than 8 minutes!

I think we have been screwed over by the rest of the teams pretty badly.

Let me just add that I agree. I continue to be dumbfounded at how teams continuously keep trying to screw us over, even though we have scrupulously adhered to every agreement we ever made. PAL lied to us about the horses we traded them, Templars embargoed us on tech trades (when we were genuinely trying to deal with them fairly!), pillaged roads in neutral territory they had told us we could build, then lied about being in agreement on a "border treaty" right before declaring war. Banana somehow manages to screw us over, after we bent over backwards to help them over the past 20 turns. Man, with friends like that, who has need for enemies?

At least Imperio has been pretty consistent. They've made no bones about being our opponent the whole game, ever since we settled Cape Town. I'm not saying we go out of our way to break an agreement with them, but I don't trust them one bit, and I fully believe they will break their treaty the instant it goes in their advantage.

What really stuns me, however, is that while teams bend over backwards to ream us out, they continue to hand over techs to PAL and sign NAPs with them. I mean - seriously, come on! PAL has way more population than anyone else, and they are thousands of beakers ahead. They are running away with the game, and no one but us will even go so far as to Close Borders with the team that has the freakin' Great Lighthouse!!! It's just a stunning display of poor metagaming.

Is our diplomacy really that bad, or are the other teams just that stupid? I can't get over how easily PAL is running away with things... Even worse, we have no choice but to continue to work with Banana. They could screw us over even more badly, and we'd have no option because we have no other allies.

I don't think we can just "hand over" jerusalem to Imperio, only to templars. They would have to capture it themselves and that would necessitate declaring war on us. Obviously we shouldn't tell them this!

Ok, we may not be able to hand it over when it's in revolt, but we can already trade away Jericho, so Imperio will have to be fairly quick to get to Jerusalem if they only DoW on the turn we capture it.
