  • We and the Angels are the only 2 factions possessing all the others' commlinks.

Interestingly, if elections were called right now, there would be 3 candidates: Hive (81 votes), Peacekeepers (44) and Sparta (also 44). Morgan doesn't even figure!!

If we're ahead of Lal at the start of 2160, it'd be worth calling an election before we launch the raid - Zak and lal would vote for us (and giving up some techs to the Angels and Gaians to buy their votes) as then we'd have enough to overtake a Hive-Morgan bloc. Of course the additional commerce income would be zilch ('cos of our base-obliteration atrocity) but we would have 20 years infiltration on everybody.

    Hive: 81
    PK's: 44
    Sparta: 44
    Morgan: 42
    Angels: 28
    Gaians: 22
    UoP: 3

I was surprised when I read this, so I just checked it:
The Angels still don't have the University and PK commlinks, and Morgan still doesn't have the Gaian one. It may only be a matter of time of course.

      • Ah yes - I fell for the old trick of just hitting "Offer all techs" (and the screen ran out of room to show the commlinks still held by us and not by them) instead of "share techs"

        • We shouldn't forget to give the Angels the news on the Gaian issue.

            • And a reply there from I T Mart:

It is not a good turn out of events. I hope your relations with the Gaian Union will not worsen. We really lacked enough cooperation on that agreement. However, I can see that little could be done from our side apart from maybe warning Gaians that some safety margin of mission years might be considered. This would be, though, seen probably as impolite by Gaian Lords. Let's hope we will do better on the next one.

In this case we will complete Intellectual Integrity of course. Regarding estimated time of completion of this technology, as you may know, there is recent increased activity of the primary star, due to which we will have very large amount of energy soon. As previously the estimate was 2166-67, now my guess is 2164-65.
Which begs the question - should we delay cashing in our AA at Rio Grande until after we have Int Int from the Angels (and Field Modulation from the Hive) in order to try and pop Doc Air or Fusion Power?

                Looks great.

Looking ahead a few days, to try and prevent early bloc forming against us, and the Angels canceling our trade because of our atrocity, may I suggest sending a message like this to the Angels, after a successful PTS raid?

                TOP SECRET – TOP SECRET

Confidential memorandum from the Spartan Junta to the Data Angels
Re: the raid on Morgan Industries and the Planetary Transit System

No doubt you have heard word of our pro-active defense operation against the Corporation. As we hold the Spartan-Angel relations in the highest regard, we would like to offer you some more insight in the reasons driving our action.

While our recent operation “Armageddon” may seem a sign of our formidable strength, and will given enough bravado hopefully lure the Corporation into thinking a massive invasion is imminent, it is in fact a sign of our weakness. After all, if we had the choice, we would rather capture and hold the Planetary Transit System, than destroy it. But we couldn’t. Terrapeso is choke full of synthmetal armoured probe defences. If we’d dare set permanent foot on Terrapeso by capturing a base, which by itself would be a relatively easy task for us, in their turn we’d be swarmed by Morganite probes from all directions, and the base with all our units in it would be mindcontrolled back to Corporate control.

That’s why we have instead chosen for a limited operation, a swift blow with as goal to maximize the economic damage to the Corporation, to reduce their economic superiority over us, and then retreat as soon as possible. If possible at least… For the chances are very high that this endeavour will end as a kamikaze operation, and that many of our brave soldiers will never see back their husbands, wives and children.

We hope you now understand why we had to do what we did, and that we can count on your support to seek revenge for the injustices the Corporation has committed against us.

                Greetings from the Junta

                • I like the idea... we should also point out that surgical strike such as ours is certainly much more preferable over a full-blown war that would cost more lives on both sides.

                    • Geo has responded, far friendlier than I would have expected! Could be a very bad thing though.

This message to notify the reception of the message.

The Data Angels mourn the dead of so many innocent people which ceased to exist as the result of this raid, Morgan or Spartan alike. While received injustice is never a thing to be happy about, the response looked rather excessive and harsh from our point of view.

                      • The very 'Book of Sorrow' initative in itself was rather harrowing as far as responses go - their RPing stance is simply forcing their hands, even though we have practically rescued them.

Yeah. Both the Angels and the Gaians are the real winners here. The raid was very expensive for us, and hideously expensive for the Morgans.

Check out this reply from mart7x5 in The Book of Sorrows, in response to Googlies post on Ironholm:

In this case, it is humanitarian behaviour. If the destruction of the Morganities base together with the Planetary Transit System did not lead to massive loss of lives, but the inhabitants of this base were relocated and their lives spared, it should be noted here. I wonder though, how ex-Morganities citizens will stand Spartan living standards.
                          (emphasis added)

I bet that the Angels will fulfill their obligations with regard to the IntInt deal, any takers?

                          • Yep, currently it looks like the current expressions of sympathy with the Morganite victims are mainly roleplaying. And they can still laugh about the matter if we use some humour (eg the Snoddasmannen Doctrine and Googlie's post about founding Ironholm )

                            • Yes, the Angels seem calm enough. But nothing certain about the Gaians yet.
                              Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

                              • Colonel Kasiopeia, please submit this message to the Spartan Central Command.

                                To Spartan Federation,

After the research adjustments undertaken within our faction we would like to inform you that our expected time of research breakthrough in Intellectual Integrity is expected in MY 2164. The same year this technology will be transferred to you.
Good news, as far as their stance is concerned - they don't seem to have vendetta in their minds for another three years - so far, so good.

Now we'll see how soon the Morganites will be able to come up with the CDF.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!
