  • If this is all correct, I'd say to let them hang for now.
Look at it again in 3+ years.
We're not making a breakthrough ourselves till after the embargo has been lifted. We don't have a need for either technology in the next 4 years, for sure.
This is what it means to be a Spartan. It's not the killing or the suffering that matters. It's the purity of focus, without fear of death or pain.

    • True - but it's a case of trying to get something for Gene Splicing before the Gaians are free to trade it to the Angels (and to Morgan after they meet/communicate)

So it's really a "suggestion" to the Angels:

Look, we both know you can get GS from the Gaians after 2149, but you can get it working for you now, by trading Ind Econ to us (which we can get by probing it away from any of the factions, but that'll take us five or so turns. So let's deal now on a 1 for 1 basis, and we can both enjoy the benefits of those techs for these five or so years

(And they'd prolly have to give something of much greater value to the Gaians for GS anyway - they're the "friends" who sold them our commlink after selling theirs to us, remember. So I'm not sure that the Angels would be above "tweaking the G's nose" on this tech)

      • Damn!
i really have to go when i just saw this...

        Okay.

But wrangle something else from them. i don't care if it's as measly as 24 e.c.'s or "future considerations" - just get something else in the deal too.

        • The Gaians never did respond to our question if they had Prog Psych (level 1 tech)

And we know that Biogenetics, Social Psych and Ind Econ are out there (2 x level 1's and a level 2)

We're sitting on Nonlinear Math, Secrets, Doc Flex, Ethical Calculus and Gene Splicing (4 x level 2's and a level 3)

Why can't wqe get a deal going with anyone?

Or do we just pull in all offers and crank out some more probes? Get our techs that way? (Much as that intial foray into strategy discussion took us a couple of months ago)

          • What really bothers me is that no one so far has offered us a proposal. Or there might have been one or two, I'm not sure, but we have been the active ones in diplomacy. Why the heck is that? Are they just lethargic, or precautious with little contact with the other factions?
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

            • I think the latter.

The Gaians and Angels seem to have been trading, although prolly not with Yang. Then we come along. And Morgan has only met Yang and us.

I think they are all being somewhat cautious.

              • Hmm - Angels have only 1 hour left to pass on the turn - I wonder what keeps them so long (certainly not negotiations with us .................)

Edit: I see they made it with 24 minutes to spare

                • Me not worried about no one wanting to trade with us.
They're loss, as long as we stay in central role between all factions.
Me somewhat worried that the A's and G's are working together.

Although it appears that the Gaians stiffed the A's out of Applied Physics in exchange for our commlink after they had sold the A's commlink to us.

maybe we can slip the knie in and give it a little twist "we wouldn't have done that to a Pactmate or to a dear friend, now would we?"

                      • 2144 turn is open. The Angels have not accepted the profferred Treaty.

I think we should remove our Treaty offer from the table and just slam the door on any further Angels communications for the time being

Stony indifference should be our public face to them (and try to get Soc psych from Lal for Ecol Eng, as Maniac suggested and I added in the turnplay thread)

                        • Uhm, I just suggested the GS<->SP trade to them. Should I pull it back?

                          • Naw - lal won't talk to us, so the Angels might bite.

And see the turn thread- I'm editing it as I play - do we want 25 ec's or Polysoft from Yang for GS?

                            • I guess the Angels don't have SocPsych as they offer Biogenetics instead.

Will we give them the following reply?

"Unfortunately Biogenetics has practically no value at all for us - it only increases our tech costs and we give our warriors an honourable burial anyway instead of throwing them in rec tanks. Currently we'd attach to Biogen a value of only 25 credits or so.
That's why we were wondering, in the interest of finding a deal after all, how would you think of a straight IndEcon<->Gene Splicing trade, without embargo.
