so what i'm getting is two things: "It can slow the game down" and "I don't like the way the abstraction of game mechanics interferes with what passes for realism."

the former is valid complaint, but the latter can hopefully be gotten over. Civ 6 tends to favor the defender that i've found. they've changed one of the fundamental movement rules. now you can only move into an adjacent tile if you have fewer moves than is required if it's your first move.

      Tactics is fun.

I have been atching it on Twitch. About time to start work.

I think only my work machine can handle it.

I've been having a mostly good time with it, but the religion game is starting to kill it for me. Spain in particular is just spamming missionaries and apostles at me constantly. The combination of:

        - slow healing of religious units that can only take place near holy sites
        - limited upgrades of religious units making them all very similar
        - other leaders promising not to convert my cities and immediately ignoring their promise without consequences
        - religious units ignoring borders and war declarations

has turned the religious game into a horror of micromanagement for me. I finally just made a ring of scouts around my cities so they can't be converted. That's the only way I've found deal with it and not spend all my time on religion.

actually Roosevelt was horrifyingly awful about religion in my last game. like, he got angry with me for converting my cities back to my religion.

then i kicked his teeth in.

espionage needs to be an option that can be turned off

just had some primitive ass society steal computers from me

that's some old civ bull**** rearing its ugly head

The solution is not to research anything. Like in Civ2, you're better off building up and stealing tech to keep pace than you are spending the beakers.

                  few complaints:

units can't move as freely on the map

if you have 2 movement points, move into a grassland or plains, have one movement point, then see that nice hill/forest/jungle over yonder? sorry... you need to skip the rest of your turn and then move into the terrain on the next turn

it's different and i don't know if i dislike it or not

roads don't see to do anything special for unit movement... units just behave like moving from grassland/prairie to grassland/prairie... at least until industrialization

messages can sometimes get stuck on the right... completed wonders seem to be an offender... something to do with the timing of hovering over the message and the ability to right click and make it go away... it's buggy

civilopedia doesn't explain the mechanics behind forming a "corps"... or if it does, you can't search "corps" to find it

some entries in the civilopedia are worded in a confusing way... the entry for the blimp/floating airship (wtever the **** it is called) says it produces a range boost for "bombard units" but it doesn't specify if it is talking about all ranged units, only siege units, or only the bombard siege unit. on other entries when it mentions a specific unit, there is an indication that it is doing so

AI is annoying with city placement. They'll have a whole empty half of a continent but then build one on the 4th square from your capital... like their second city... this happens to me every game

loading times are long as ****, even with the game on an SSD

leader screens are annoying and unnecessary... also, buggy if you are trying to go into the main menu while the AI takes its turn and then tries to tell you your culture sucks while you are in the gameplay menu trying to turn the **** off

and you can't turn off the useless things where they just have a pop up that wastes 15-30 seconds of your already long turn time just to tell you they like/hate you... even with the animations off, you still have to wait for their snazzy little text fading in and out bull**** before you can clickthrough

fun game but bugs and design features/flaws are getting to me

the solution is to mod spies out of the game until the espionage mechanic becomes something

they probably already have it planned to provide espionage as something shallow and crappy but then "improve it" and charge for it with a dlc

                    firaxis is trash like that

religion is also very shallow and wouldn't be missed if it wasn't included

building up faith is nice... improvements and districts are useful

with theocracy, you can buy units with faith

you can also buy great people with faith

but the spread of religion seems pointless, beyond adding a extra dynamic of expansion, i suppose... can't just go out and build a city, gotta be sure to bring your faith too with a missionary. it's not like any of the settlers have religious beliefs when they leave to go settle a new city

they become atheists and abandon all beliefs, waiting for some random unit to come by and tell them what to believe

or maybe in a thousand years, the "pressure" of spreading religion will turn the city...

the problem i'm noticing with this civ is that there is too much to do

you can't try to play a game where you have a great empire

even when you are big, you are more like a niche civ specializing in this or that

which is fine for competitive MP balance
but boring as a singleplayer experience...

i'm going to take this game to completion and see what i think
To us, it is the BEAST.

there doesn't seem to be a sentry order for units... at least that i can see

if you happen to have some fortified units that get attacked and you don't actually move to the map to see it, the first indication you get of an attack is a message saying your unit got killed

the game also wants to cycle through your units automatically as you issue orders

sadly, there's like a second or two delay

so if you think fast and move a unit, intuitively thinking the unit right next to it would be next, NOPE, you go all the way to the other side of the map

you can be fast and click the unit you want to move in between the auto selection cycles, however, it will override what you did

there's a lot of that in the game interface... delays... like a second or two

the game also likes to run through a lot of "cycles" doing automatic things

it's also not very clear about when this **** stops, sometimes

i think this is a ui issue

there are just some bits of things i wish the game showed me, things i'm accustomed to having at my fingertips... and it just doesn't seem there

like if i want to see a leader's attitude towards me, i'd like to hover over their face and get a quick run down of why they hate me

but no, you have to open menus and submenus just to find this information

                            there's a lot of that

                            information i want

                            where is it?

                            tucked away somewhere

most of my complaints are superficial

the core of the game is fantastic

don't let my whining take away from that

It seems like the "Just built"-Info in the production screen is buggy.
Usually it doesn't show me the last thing I built, but rather the one I built before that.

Quite annoying as it forces me to memorize what I build in each city all the time
