  • Hiho Curt, long time no see ... ;-)

After downloading your latest epic I immediately fired up the Soviet civ - and noticed the first-turn-money bug, i.e. the evil Nazis plundered all my money when they took Chernovtsy away from the Motherland. I guess I will be reporting in soon, so far it looks awesome

By the way, what about making mountains (and maybe hills) impassable for armoured troops?

    EDIT: spelling, additional information

    • Hi there, old chap! How are ya?

Don't worry about the money bug, there are events that give you 'loans' from the Allies in the next few turns...

I was toying with the idea of impassable mounts, it might be
best to get everyone's opinion on that before implementation.

Would impassable mountains for tracked vehicles be viable?

      • That's what I'll be doing in Fortress Europe. Only Infantry and Artillery can cross mountains and marshes.

        • But what about tracked vehicles on roads?

          • I think it might be better to just give the mountains a vast move penalty, so the tank
might not be able to move onto it first time - And roads will become even more useful!

And hopefully you can forget it all again...

I've attached my "beta" version of CivSwap with the necessary Dictator settings for it as well...

The CivSwap.ini file contains all the former batch instructions. The batch file, delevent and choice are no longer needed. Feel free to have a look at the ini file (Notepad will do).

Here's how to make it work:
              1. Unzip files into Dictator folder
              2. Make sure you have autosaving turned on before you start (Game > Game Options > Autosave each turn)
              3. Double-click CivSwap.exe before you load your savegame or start the scenario. A tiny window appears in the top-right of your screen.
              4. Play Dictator!
              5. When you get a pop-up saying "CivSwap has made changes to the scenario...", follow the instructions (i.e. reload your autosave)...
              6. That's it!

You'll have to repeat steps 3-5 again every time you play Dictator, of course. Additionally, when you start up CivSwap after playing the first time you'll get a small pop-up asking if you want to continue your existing game or start a new one. If you choose to start a new game, the summer 1941 files are loaded again.

              Special notes:
              • You can obviously ignore the text event saying you have to install the new files. Nor do you need to specifically save your game as D7.sav.
              • If you get errors when you try to run CivSwap, install the Visual Basic 6 run-time files.
              • If you're already playing a game, you can still use CivSwap, but you'll have to do one extra thing. Open CivSwap.ini in Notepad, delete everything before "[Turns]" and save it as "CivSwap.dat" (including the double quotes!).

Now continue playtesting Dictator! (and CivSwap, perhaps)

              • Love Civ Swap 2.0 already Mercator!

I will definitely make use of this in Fortress Europe. As well as making the swap over much easier it frees up a number of events too!

The first turn bug can be fixed easily enough. See attached.

Not that I'm in any position to talk.

The file names in the CivSwap INI file aren't consistent with those in the latest download packs, so someone's going to have to make some adjustments.

                  • Nice work from Merc and Catfish!

                    @Merc:
I will package civswap with the download, as well as the batch so people will be able to use what system they prefer.
Both are very good and save tons of bother. I now have to wonder why I never explored this avenue earlier!

Civswap seems very cool. Not needing to save the game as a specific filename will be good. Can there be two
different games played at the same time? I will try civswap out as soon as I have finished my current game.

                    @Catfish:
Is that money-bug hexed scn file I see before me?
If so, I can delete the events in summer 1941 that give the Sovs cash, or perhaps keep them as lend lease.

Again, cheers for all this support, fellers!
