I decided to make this post from my Capo name just to make the point a little more concrete. Because this pertains to all games, not just this one.

In many ways I am glad this happened when it did, even though it sucked to sit around staring at a computer while at the same time being very sick (everyone made it quite apparent they already knew who I was so I dont' care) until three in the morning, but alas, it happened. Its funny to see people in frustrating situations, everyone should learn from this a little bit.

The one thing that annoyed the hell out of me, and I think everyone else is what Carpathia did, and to a lesser extent the Inca and Ottomans (I think); basically they went missing for a while without telling people. In Carpathia's case he appears to have just left. Now the reason I bring this up is that last night we actually discussed playing Carpathia as AI because he didn't show up, and I said that it would be best just to skip the session and complain about it later because if we played AI Carpathia could whine and ruin the game. The last thing we need is to let one person ruin the game, I'd rather lose a session than the whole game.

So Carpathia, I say this to you; you do that again you're out, and if Lz and Co don't want to go that route (which I am sure they will) I'll leave and start another game. Its unacceptable and unfair to the rest of the group that you just disappear without telling anybody. I know its frustrating business, I know its arduous to stare at a monitor for hours on end without any progress, but that's what happens. Sometimes we get good connections sometimes we don't, and as in this case, it usually involves one guy's computer on settings he didn't realize they were on, but that's okay, it happens and it probably won't be the last time either.

But seriously, and I hope everyone agrees with me on this, you pull another stunt like that and your finished, and I don't give a damn if you're deity or Toni or Lz or, well I can't say Capo, but you get my drift. Vet or not, you're out.

Everyone else who left for a minute without telling anyone should learn from this experience. What you've got to realize is people are anxious to play, we wait a whole week with diplomacy (and this week's was particularly intense) just to play and when the game isn't going smoothly people get antsy. You must realize this, even if you yourself are calm. So if you leave, even for a minute just tell someone, anyone, its not difficult to type three letters is it (AFK, BRB)? I mean it means the difference between us having a cool and collected group trying to figure out a problem or us having to sit there and listen to Diplo_Holland have a heart attack. (Not that I was much better, or anyone else for that matter).

So basically what I am saying is this; its best if we try and keep cool heads, if we try and let everyone know what we are doing, and if we dedicate that three hour window to making the session work, even if we only wind up with fifty minutes to play. That's all I'm saying. I know we're all rivals in the game, but in a very real way we are all on the same team, so we've got to act that way when we're setting up these games.

Parting words; this is probably going to happen again, so let's just be mentally prepared to deal with it again.

Hopefully next week goes well, and I am personally going to take a break from posting for a few days, maybe like four, I'll keep up with the forums but try not to do anything ridiculous for a few days... you know how I am, I have to reply if something crazy goes down...

Anyway, thanks to everyone who stuck it out and tried to make it work. Again, I'm sorry to be so blunt Carpathia, but that was a bad showing on your part and I hope you have a good explaination.

Regarding your question, apparantly MP games in 3.13 need all players that were in the game when the save was made to be in the game again when the game is loaded to continue the game.

If one of the slots that was filled during the saving is empty during the loading, the game will just do nothing.

Cyber I want to get this fixed- does that mean I should ruin the fun for the three guys who haven't figured out who I am? people don't look that much into organisation threads, and I'm still hopefull someone on poly will go: " Ahhh had the same problem. This is what you do..."

Listen can someone do me a favour then and start a thread about the problem...Cyber could you prehaps start an identical one?

BTW Cyber three us started a new game, it played ok, we did a save, tried to load it the situation I desribed happened.


BTW I have another question why does the maptype in the Lobby sometimes show up as a sawe and other like archipelago or somehting? If I rember right session two showed up as archipelago.

But you forgot to admonish me for oversleeping for 28 min. People that will never happen again, I just bought a brand new alarm clock, I also downloaded a computer one AND I even asked someone close to me to wake me up at 5.30 EVERY Sunday.


Once again I want to say how sorry I am... actually I'm not that sorry. The truth is I'm just scared ****less I won't be able to continue HOTW12.

No posting with diplo id's outside the diplo threads.

And for the record, I've posted the solution to your problem a few posts above this one.
It's a common 3.13 bug.

Hey Capo I may have been gone for 5 mins yea it sucks and i'm sorry for it (I was away because I restarted my pc)

But you are the one who could not join the host in the 1st 30mins and the previous week could not see the bloody game - so next time you come here and want to start shooting at players being away for 5mins make sure you clean up your own mess FIRST. And about those Ottomans you speak of - be assured they don't come any more reliable then that!!!

Guys, regarding the mail problems, know that I'm not regularly reading this thread. If you have problems, contact me.

Nothing has changed regarding the mail boxes. The design has stayed the same.
It's possible that you have visited the mailbox with another browser? Maybe it's not working in firefox? (I think it does)

You may have to accept some activex stuff, and install some java (it asks you to install it while you visit it, just click on the bar at the top of the window).

If you have specific problems, please PM me, include your browser type, etc.

Yeah, but it was due to my settings and when I fixed it I was in the whole time, that's all. Just be there if you can is what I'm saying, and when you leave without telling people why everyone thinks the worst, so just say "I'll be back in five minutes" or something, that's all I'm saying.

Carpathia did say that, but then never returned.

I haven't even read all the posts, but from breezing them I can tell some people are mad at me.

I think my computer overheated last night. It kicked me from civ and the screen went black. I got a message that I had a fan failure. I thought i smelled burning electronics (maybe my imagination) but even unplugging the comp from the wall and trying to start it back up resulted in me getting a very DOS like screen telling me windows couldn't load.

Today it works. I opened it up and used some dustoff on the fans and chipboards (8 year old comp very dusty). It works NOW, but for all i know i am overheating my CPU again running it without a fan as I write this.

Going to get a new fan tomarrow. Sorry about last night but it was sort of out of my hands.

I do have a backup comp that I will have ready next session with BTS loaded incase of another technical problem.

Again, my sincear appologies. I was excited all week about playing too.

I fully agree with you if it was about someone else, the people who know me (and there are ppl who know who the Inca are) trust 100% that I will be there.

I'm not so sure that's correct. I think France was blocking during the join which stopped others getting in.

This maybe explains why when we tried me as host that 5 joined with no problems then no one else could - France was joining and was blocking somehow?

Can you confirm your port settings and that your router firewall is off?

What is your LAN IP when you run "ipconfig"?

What LAN IP have you set up in your Port Forwarding (Virtual Server) for port 2056 UDP/TCP?

Just trying to think of hings here...

Other possibilities:

* low disk space? This also effects virtual memory.
* Faulty ADSL modem?
* ISP needs to open up ports? Some need to do this.
* simple things like all leads carrying the internet - check and replace
* corrupted Windows? Re-install
* faulty drive? You said you had a drive fail since the last session... some drives have intermittent issues before totalling failing btw

Come on guys what else could it be?

3 of us started a new game with France through the Lobby and it ran perferctly. We saved it then reloaded and France could not join - exact same issue as failed Sesson 3 of HOTW12...
