2 No earlier start for me. Playing this diplo means that another longstanding set of games with friends has a shortened session already, it is unreasonable to shorten it further, enough compromise has already been done there.

People I can't seem to acces my plomp.eu mail does anyone else have a problem with it?

France, VOIP software can stuff up a system somewhat in ways difficult to remedy. I also do have VOIP on my computer and although I generally can host well and join well through gamespy and can join through direct IP I cannot host direct IP. Also there are a small minority of players my system conflicts with despite my best efforts and cannot play games with (this is possibly about 1 in 20 players). I am hoping this will not now include you, unfortunately there is a potential for that to be the case. Hopefully i can be included in a test sometime, possibly about 22 - 24 hours before regular start time will be ok, depends a bit on my work though, been doing a lot of extra hours and cannot often be sure I am available except for around time of our regular session.

The whole plomp.eu account thing is such a pain in the ass. I still don't understand why we can't just use Apolyton mail. It would be 100% easier and more people would actually use it.

hey carpathia, maybe you don't use the mail, but I do, and I know certain others do as well. personally I find it extremely useful and it allows me to send among other things screenshots and such, for example of border suggestions and whatnot. if you don't want to use it don't, answer people in PM here on poly. but you have mail from me on your account by the way.

I couldn't disagree more, I’ve done all my diplomacy (except the little bit in the story thread) thus far via the email accounts. I’ve had lots of correspondences with all my neighbors, and some more distant states. The ability to send screenshots with border proposals, maps, intelligence updates far far outweighs any inconvenience. I want to really thank Cyber for this , I personally consider this one of the best aspect of the anon rule we implemented.

Once the mails get descrambeled, readers will have a truly uniqe look at the story, I've been trying hard to make most of my letters IC and entertaining as a result.

We could never do that with PM. But its like Mongolia says, don't like it, don't use it. But I do have to warn people I've almost stopped using my PM and don't check it often.

I don't know, we should do a test with as many players as possible, if there is a problem, we'll and I'll do a few more things. Its quite possible my problem isn't solved, and that I in fact am having trouble with others with VOIP, no way to tell for now.

I'm going to play a bit of devil's advocate here and agree with Carpathia.

I was never for the e-mail for a few reasons, the main one is that I think it detracts from the forums which is where most (if not all) of our diplomacy should really occur. Private diplomacy is fine, but when it gets to a point where its almost entirely private it takes away from the Diplogame. Remember, the Diplomacy is the major part of the game, therefore it should be more public than it has been.

Combine this with the technical problems (I am having technical problems with my mail) as well as the fact that we are voting on diplomacy I think the e-mail, while it is impressive and I appreciate the work, removes a portion of the game that would make it much better.

But that's just my opinion.

Now I would point out I can't imagine a diplo game without this. And BTW the correspondences will become pubilc after HOTW12 is over. And furter more aren't we supposed to "publish" the ones that we don't consider it classifed.

I'm sorry about the technical problems.
It's not really a dead horse. I'm using plompweb mail for about 5 years already, for 99,99% without problems.

You guys are indeed unlucky. There are some problems these days, but I'm on top of it, trying to figure things out asap. Everything is up and running right now. I'll keep an eye on it. I know what's going wrong (the router) and I will fix it (replace the router) if it keeps occuring.

Regarding the problems of not being able to load the mailbox (java problems), I've tried to help you guys but nobody got back to me explaning what browser he used, what security settings, etc. etc. I can't help that way.

If one of you wants to bypass plomp mail entirely, just sent me a pm, I can pass all your e-mails through to another account. You have to set that account up yourself, and you obviously have to take care of the anonymous settings on that account as well, but that can't be a problem if you know how to operate outlook express (ie).

I use plomp mail myself and I think it's the best webmail client on the web. (I didn't create it myself )

If you have problems with the java, etc. please contact me (BY PM) and give me all info about your browser / system, etc. maybe even with screenshots of hte problems. I'll help you out for sure.

There seems to be some uncertainty as to whether we are playing the extra session or not.

So far I've been able to count the following votes
France, America, Mongol, Carpathia
Deity, Hera, Toni
in favor of another session in about 6 hours.

and trev saying no to playing earlier. and by that I am uncertain if it is meant that he can't play earlier on the normal session, or if he can't play a session earlier in the week.


I will try to be online here and on msn to see what is going on at 11:30 PM USA, 5:30 AM Europe, 4:30 PM Australia. That is half an hour before our normal playtime. I can play then for 1.30 hours. but not more. if everyone is NOT there and ready to play 5 minutes after this, a session is not likely. note that i have to leave at the LATEST after 2 hours. preferably before. I'll host the game.

but it doesn't look like it will happen, since we seem to lack 1 vote AND I'm not sure if some of you guys have voted twice, since some people have voted as civ and others as players.


Note. If for some reason the game is NOT hosted at the mentioned hour, or 5 minutes later, it means that I can't play at that moment, but may be available after half an hour. at normal start time. no guarantees. this is a bit too short notice, and not the ideal time for me either. but I will try.
