Link? Being a newbie, I could use the example...

Link to the diplofaq in my sig and stickied at the top of this forum. It has a list of every diplogame ever played with links to the various story threads for each game. I think HOTW 2 and 5 are the two best. HOTW 4 and 7 are good too.

I'm not sure I'm undestanding all the references or in-jokes in some posts. Don't forget we have an international audience here and Diplo America, in particular, is possibly being very clever but I'm not getting it... am I thick?
Don't answer that...
but there is a tendency for Amerocacentricity... in the real world. Like how much do you know about Slavic history or Australian history?

First of all, you vote from a number of criteria, you'll have to value which counts the most yourself. Example of good criteria in the diplomacy category could be:
A) How influential and farreaching diplomacy is. Avoiding a war between 3 nations is more influential than avoiding one of 2. A war between 2 nations is more influential than a trade agreement between 3. Think about the compromises made, the resources involved and so on.
B) How creative and entertaining it is.
C) How well it benefits the players in question or how much it is to the detriment of another
etc
You should vote by YOUR criteria. You, the Player, not the civ or its leader. But you must use the diplo_civ [at] plomp.eu e-mail account.
IF ANYONE AT THIS JUNCTION HAS NOT LOGGED INTO THEIR DIPLO E-MAILS, THEY SHOULD DO SO IMMEDIATELY. THEY WILL BE THE BACKBONE OF DIPLOMATIC NEGOTIATIONS. AND THE ACCOUNT TO SEND YOUR VOTES FROM! IF ANYONE NEEDS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE DOING SO, PLEASE LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY.
We want to reward good diplomacy, creative thinking, and encourage more of it. Just because you are at the short end of the stick when Civ X pulls off a trade embargo, it should not defer from the amazing feat it is to pull off a major trade embargo. For example I seem to remember giving Ozzy very good diplomatic scores in HOTW5 even though we were pretty much at odds the whole game.
Reward the things you find impressive and funny. Regardless of your civs like or dislike for the civ in question.
For storytelling.
This one seems clear cut. The criteria are mostly what you find funny, interesting, headturning and flabbergasting to read. Rate posts you enjoy highly. A lot of posts contain both diplomacy and storytelling. For example Americas journey from Carpathia to America is storytelling, but it is intertwined with diplomacy. Diplomacy are the actual ingame agreements and decisions. So you would reward the diplomatic treaty, while the story as they travel through Carpathia and when they reach America is storytelling. Storytelling is the juicy bits that surround diplomacy and what not. References to characters, internal politics and culture are storytelling tools. Anything cultural or historical told that is not directly pertaining to diplomacy falls into the storytelling / RP category.
Military category.
Here you should value impressive military feats. This could be anything from rapidly modernizing an obsolete army to seizing an enemy city quickly or spectacularly. Daring plans well executed, having an impressive army (or fleet), using your military to your advantage, like a blockade, coordinating military efforts with one or more nations, etc. These are things that should be valued in the military category.
Also, you may not vote for yourself. This seems obvious and it must be so.
And finally, the plan is that after the votes of the very last session are sent in, Cybershy will count up the votes, announce them, then release the password to the diplo_vote [at] plomp.eu account so all can go in and look at the votes and their justifications. If people prefer a secret vote where your reasons are not made clear, we should put that to a vote, but I believe that learning from what people consider good diplo, story and military is more essential than keeping it secret.

I think most non-Americans know more about American history than they do Slavic and Australian history. That's just cause America kicks ass.

Carpathia and America have been conducting diplomacy via private message through Apolyton, so the majority of our negotiating is not known publicly.
When is the voting anyway? Next week right?
I think he will only allow access to the voting address, so that we can see how people justified their vote. But once HOTW12 is over the addresses will be made public.
I hope, since certain arrangements are sensitive for much longer than one session.

Well i'm Slavic and i know much more about my own history then any other.
American history is just a freebie - what was it 250 years - easy to learn. Well it is not the kicking ass fact Ozzy - but the lack of history that nation has compared to the world.

there is a church not far from where I live, that was built originally in 1150 AD. it burned a few times but was rebuilt and got its current form in the 1500's. You can see a cannonball lodged in the front wall of the church, stemming from a battle in 1665. More than a hundred years before the US was founded. you americans talk of history? you don't know the meaning of the word. (I'm being provocative)
but back to the game. should we vote now for the first session and posts made? or should we wait until next week. every other session seems a good voting habit. and frankly, not much has happened diplomacywise or militarily as far as I can tell, except for a few minor border agreements, and a few units being built.
I believe a lot of civs, if not most civs, have done a lot of diplomacy by letters via e-mail or PM, hidden from the public eye. something to publish when no longer relevant, or at the end of the game.

It would be good to have a vote on the stories, I think it would be also nice to have those results posted for all to see. This I think will encourage players to run even better stories.
