    Of course.

    • Which is why I say the Mali should have driven a MUCH harder bargain. Swapping 2 techs for only 1 in return is not very cost effective!

      • The limit on techs is what can be sold or given away, receiving techs does not count. Ottomans have sold 2, 1 to Mali and 1 to Inca, so they have 8 sales left for game. Mali in their deal sold 2 techs to Ottomans so have 2 less future trades

            • ok. it seems we're having some more trouble. if people would please do us the favor of not wandering off at this junction, we're gonna rehost I suspect. I'll use another save.

              And would people make sure firewalls are off AND that they are logged into msn? it would so much help if we could talk to those players not in.

                    • ok. having run a few tests after we gave up, it seems we've found the problem. it's france.

                      now let me make it clear that it is not because of any negligience or other misconduct . france did an uinstall not long ago due to a hard drive crash, then a clean reinstall. and I suspect there are windows registry and access files that have gotten crossed. he's going to uninstall again, run a reg-cleaner, reinstall, and run a few tests during the week. most likely on tuesday. hopefully that should take care of our problems.

                      if not a sub may need to step in until the problem is fixed.

                      I know that this was extremely frustrating for everyone. personally I am just really really disappointed. I had been looking forward to this all week. and it all fell to pieces because of technical stuff. I want to stress that it seemed that other gamers were having gamespy lobby issues as well, so it may have been a combination of several issues. sometimes the gods of diplo are just not with us.

                      this is not the first time a session has been lost on technical problems, and probably won't be the last. many thanks to gamespy and firaxis among others. with so many players individual computer issues will arise. it's a very frustrating experience for everyone. including the person with the problem, because it puts a lot of heat on them and a lot of pressure to fix it, and suspicion that it isnt fixed whenever later tech diffs occur. right now, we just have to accept that we lost a session, and that really really sucks, but nothing can be done about it except ensuring that it doesnt happen again.

                      However, there is a few other issues that I feel strongly need to be discussed. France was 30 minutes late for the session. That was bad. He's not going to be late again he says, and I am sure we all accept that delays can happen and appreciate that he will do his utmost to make sure it doesnt happen again. Another thing that was extremely annoying, is that I noticed that several players wandered off without announcing their absence. Inca, was gone for a good 5 minutes, and so was Ottoman. That's 10 minutes lost just there. And a very hefty increase in the general annoyance of everyone else. If you're going to be afk, please let us know so that we don't sit banging our heads against our keyboards because we don't know what's going on.

                      We were never able to sort out that France was in fact the issue, if we had done so, we could have played on with a sub or with france as AI. One of the reasons we were unable to find this out is because it was very difficult to coordinate our efforts and communication because people were not available on MSN. At the end we were attempting to run a skeleton start with only a few players, but this was exceedingly difficult due to communication limitations.

                      And finally, Carpathia disappeared sometime during the troubles without telling anyone or posting in the org thread or anything. That is just impolite.

                      So. In summary. As host, I would like to ask that people always announce that they will be afk if its for more than 1 minute. afk 2 mins takes 1 second to type and it saves a LOT of frustration on those left waiting to know that you haven't disconnected or gone awol. So, any afk over 1 minute, say so.

                      And where do we say so? Lobby? impossible to keep track of what is said there. Staging area? not everyone is in at all times, especially when there are connection issues some people have to relay info in a very ineffective way. That leaves us with MSN. I see no reason why everyone should not be logged into MSN from game start (preferably a bit before) to game end. If we are all in one chatroom that is not dependent on game connections and other issues, we have a far better chance of coordinating our efforts and organizing our troubles. Could we all agree to be on MSN with our diplohandles from at the latest 1 minute prior to gamestart?

                      And finally. Had we succeeded in overcoming our technical problems, Carpathia had still gone missing. Keep in mind that the game cannot progress unless all players are present. So if we had managed, we would then have had to overcome a player deserting, without letting anyone know. If this was due to technical problems, then that is understandable, but if it wasn't, we have all been treated quite rudely. I would like to know that this won't happen again.

                      • Thanks for efforts Mongolia.

                        Second all that.

                        MSN ON ALL THE TIME!

                        And suggest no crap talk whilst attempting connections/game start etc.

                        Only talk about what's going with getting the session started;

                        listen to the host in MSN (Mongolia usually);

                        and watch the screen at all times (only announce afk IF you really have to)

                        • Yes, as annoying as technical issues are, at least you know its not necessarily anyone's fault. People walking off, being really late or not logging on to their MSN accounts is someone's fault, & is totally avoidable to boot-which is what makes it so much more annoying!

                          Next game, I think we should all make a sincere effort to rock up 15-20 minutes early just to make sure everything is running well.

                          Oh, & Aussie, leave me the HELL ALONE-I would like to see you do a better deal under the circumstances!

                          • People, do you have any theories as to why a person might have difficulties joining a saved game?

                            Holland, Mali and Me did a test a few minutes back, after I had cleared my ****ty computer up, and reinstalled the thing. We ran ok for a few turns, then saved and tired at another go.

                            It failed. They didn't see me, I was in but couldn't do anything, I keept getting a "Waiting for other civs" message and they kept waiting at the loading screen.

                            BTW What would happen if I hosted the save? And what would happen if I ended my turn before saving, like mali did by accident? Is it possible my MP saves are corrupted and that if I dowloaded someone else's it would be ok?

                              Regarding your question, apparantly MP games in 3.13 need all players that were in the game when the save was made to be in the game again when the game is loaded to continue the game.

                              If one of the slots that was filled during the saving is empty during the loading, the game will just do nothing.

                                but I have a save where everyone has left I think. but I am unable to change anything or advance the turn with that as well. it has been that way for all our saves.
