Aussie Group MP Games (may include Americans and other ring-ins)
It will be a new game kbarrett, and it is done with direct ip, warlords with patch. Do you have a MSN or icq identity, if so can you please post so that you are contactable.
Ok, I will check the chat room, maybe post the ip as a private message, if you can get a instant messenger working, would be good as makes it easier for restarts if game crashes etc, I also have AIM, but usually leave it off.
Sorry kbarrett, I wanted your land. It was very productive, and your religion gave me spies in trevs cities
Considering you have left me alone, it would suggest that all you found out from your spies was that my defences were good, must have been a huge help that.
Snotty and Gibsie have not previously played in games of ours, they were a bit more aggresive than some of the other players are, but defence is always vital, particularly archery which I understand you neglected, archers defend cities very effectively and very cheaply, they cannot counterattack, but because they are so effective on the defence they cost the aggressor dearly and prevent him winning even if you cannot win, in other words they bring mutual destruction to both parties in the war. A solid defence with archers deters attack because it increases the attackers cost.
However overall it was a very good game and was finely balanced at the end of the day with snooty and gibsie 'jointly' attacking deity (coincidence they claimed despite attack occuring on the same turn) and trevriffic (myself) immediately responding with war on Gibsie. The result was a stalemate with the attacking SOD's always retreating or being killed. The extra GDP of snooty was balanced by extra hammers and 5 wonders of trevriffic and his specialist based economy including a significant number of GE's and GP's settled into a capital with beaucracy civic giving very high production leaving players pretty even at the end of the session. Even the smaller civs of deity and Alex were doing reasonable with deity having access to advanced weaponry and Alex being first to philosophy, Taoism and building several wonders. Gibsie built the Great Library and so has a useful science boost.
Hopefully this game can be resumed another time.
Who is available to play tomorrow, about the same time, have some starters, but some of todays players are not available, so we need some extras for an interesting game.
I should be around same time same place tomorrow for a reload or new game
The attack on deity really was a coincidence, I nearly didnt attack him when I had planned to because I knew Gibsie and I would get accused. I just wanted deitys one city out of the islands, I wasnt looking for a land war as I would be colonizing the new world very shortly
Yes, I second Snotty's mention of coincidence. I actually had no idea why it was in particular that he declared war on deity as he had no troops anywhere near deity's land, he'd mentioned that there was an island city that he wanted but I didn't realise he was going to go to war for it. Given the attacks were at completely different places (I hadn't even explored where the other attack was), they didn't need to happen on the same turn, and we hadn't even discussed a joint attack.
Trev's declaration of war on me really screwed over my invasion, which was nice considering he let me move my army through his territory so I could attack deity's closest city in one turn... but that's exactly the kind of evil manoevre that makes the game fun!
The only otehr warmongering of mine was attacking a scout that took one of "my" goody huts. I was moving that warrior up there with a purpose (As I mentioned before in the game, I got a useful map, showing me where the other hut was). Next time you nick a hut like that, just send a message explaining and asking not for a -3 diplomatic penalty "You stole my goody hut" and you won't lose your unit
Oh yeah and I took a minor city off of defcat, but he had already taken the -999 penalty of "You take WAY too long for your turns!" so it was perfectly justified
