Here are mine, most are related to map creation, game options

-Add "lined up" or "Staggared" to islands and custom continents, I have no idea why these maps give you almost perfectly aligned and sized landmasses. I like Continents and Archipelago - Snaky Continents. But also like the options in Custom Continents and Islands for number of landmasses, number of small islands, and the 1 per civ/extra/many extra options. Or simply add something that gives us all of these options but creates a more organic layout of landmasses.

    - Split the "Speed" option into

    Tech Speed
    Unit Speed
    City Improvement Speed
    Wonder Speed

So you can have games where the tech is epic, the units are fast, buildings are normal, and wonders are epic, or any mix you so desire, the single speed option just does't work.

    - Add an option to all games for # of resources, rich/normal/poor

-What ever happened to the planets "Age" that represented how many hills/mtns, adding that as an option would also be nice.

Let me put in a vote for making the AI friendlies not ask for tech. I mean they never gift anything to the human as far as I can see, but if I am nice to them they want freebies all the time.

You got to love it when you give them techs and maps and then they keep asking for another, while all the time they have a tech you do not have and won't even trade it.

Soon I get sick of it and refuse any more deals of any kind. Follwed soon after by a visit from some very well trained troops and bombardment units.

I'm going to wait on updating that main list to first see if anybody from Firaxis finds it useful. I suppose we could hit 100 items soon, and I wonder if they'd like us, for intance, for vote on the Top 20 or something?

I think the longer the list the better. Let them read it as it is and then choose what is doable and what not. Important is to keep the list made of simple things, that are easy to read and understand and can be done in a patch (even if not the first one).

If we start now voting a top20 out of a 100 items list, it will be a mess. I think a top20 is more appropriate for a "Top ideas for an expansion pack" list.

yin, i believe this is 100% constructive criticism and what is the better way of showing how they can make their game perfect than this one?

i'd say, let's go for 77, 88 or 99 ideas and then officially get it to firaxis. how, i have no idea. maybe via one of our people who are close or very close (locutus, flip, alexman, solver, markg, ...)?

O.K. I will ask Solver to ask Soren if this format/approach works for them. I learned from the Civ 3 list that too much information can kill an idea, too. For example, maybe they are working on the UI right now and most need that kind of feedback. Maybe in January they'll be working on AI, stuff like that.

[69] You should not be allowed to trade equal amounts of Gold for Gold or GPT for GPT. As it stands now, it increases your trade partnership status for no loss on your side.

[70] City names to be forbidden.
When you foudn a new city, a name pops up, like "Roma" for Rome in the French version (when the French say Rome). If you rename the new city, the next name proposed will always be the same. Cycle through the names like in civ2 (never show twice a name already proposed) or give the option to do so (city name with a checkbow to refuse the name next time for instance).

                      • I love every suggestion, but I disagree with [59] Space Bar as an option to end turn. In civ3, sometimes when I was going through my turns, and skipping units turns (with spacebar) I would prematurely end my turn after I ran out of units to spacebar...when I had a lot more things I wanted to change before the end of my turn. Just a note...

                        • Yin, thanks for creating this thread. So many of the ideas that have been posted are wonderful.

I would like to add idea #71 myself, and that is to add Civilopedia links to the city screen. Let's say I'm in the city screen and deciding what unit to build. It'd be nice to be able to jump to the Civilopedia entry for that unit.

I'd also like to comment on idea #70. I can see the usefulness of that idea to some people, but I'd prefer it not to be mandatory. Frequently I'll want to choose my own name, say "Panal Canal City" when I'm building a canal-type city, without forever losing the chance to use the original name.

                          • [72] Move the "Go Back" option on the main menu / title screen to be closer to the list we've been moving mouse on. Ideally, this should be a back arrow that's easily noticed and reached without moving the pointer all the way across the screen.

At first, I had no idea how to get back to the main menu once I adjusted my Graphics options.

Didn't see this one in the list (hope I didn't miss it):

[75] Important events need to be displayed much more prominently on the screen (i.e. Don't hide X built wonder Y or X has founded religion Z in tiny text in the top left corner). Perhaps an option to enlarge the event text?
