  • I've noticed that one, too. Once in a while (usually early in the game) I'll see a list of possible technologies I can research, and then I'll click on "see the big picture". Then I find a technology that wasn't listed as a choice that I am just one step away from.

    • minor bug

Minor Bug: It is annoying that leaders are informed about my technologies or resources before I am. Here I'll have a leader wanting to make a deal about a technology that I have, or a resource that I created/gained "hollywood movies". Then, later, I'll learned that I had completed it. I should know before they do.

      • Confused if this is a great person bug or my misunderstanding. But when I'm going to start a golden age, no problem the first time. I had, I think, two engineers and an artist (3 great leaders) and it wouldn't let me start one until I got a great merchant. I could never trigger a golden age that required four great people.

        • You can use only one great person of every category together to start a golden age.

          • I don't know if this has been posted yet, but the tooltips for the build and research popup menus don't work half of the time.

            • COMPLAINT: It is too easy to completely miss the opening sequence where Leonard Nimoy reads the standard... what... was it Civ II... creation of the Earth story. The visual sequence is too slow and you have no idea that a story is being told there.

What am I talking about? When you start a new game, and it creates the world. Don't instantly hit "play game" when it is ready. Linger and enjoy.

              • I noticed that too! It wasn't until I took it over to a friend's house where he had an older PC that I noticed it was even there. Having a SATA drive really makes a difference on load times...and props to leonard nimoy!

Also just for reference on my PIII 866 with a 32MB geforce card and 384MB ram the game actually runs, I'm so thrilled. It's choppy and kind of slow even on the lowest settings, but now I can play multiplayer, yay!

                  • I have a real bad problem with the game running really slowly. It loads slow, it reloads slow and the turns are all very slow. Graphicly it looks beautiful.

Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong?

                    Here are my system specs:

UPDATE: Now that I'm looking for it, I would reclassify this as "annoyingly often". I'm missing major techs in the short list that I would normally pursue.

                          • Interface Bugs

I've noticed a few annoying interface bugs so far:

                            1. Playing Americans, if you rename your cities (starting from the first one):

                            a. The suggested name for EVERY city after that is Washington (which is annoying but not the bug) AND if you DO NOT begin typing your new name before the settler finishes it's animation you get locked into the "What would you like to build here?" Window DESPITE the name window still being open.

                            b. Mouse over for new available tech/unit info stops working when new discoveries are announced, mouse over for square the cursor was in repeatedly shown in lower left corner instead.

                            c. After entering the Civilopedia while deciding upon a new technology to enter, you can not exit out to the technology discovered screen, exiting the civilopedia closes that window.

I like to check the stats on newly available techs and units before I pick what next to research.

                            • IIRC, it has always been that not all researchable techs were actually available every turn. By always, I mean not just Civ IV... and I'm thinking it's not a bug.

Are you sure you're correctly understanding what's required to advance to that tech? Many techs have multiple requirements, which are shown as little icons in the right side of the tech. IE, Pottery requires The Wheel, and either fishing or agriculture. This is perhaps a misleading picture, as the arrows really show fishing and agriculture, and if you're a civ3 player you're used to paying attention to the arrows; but don't, instead follow the right-hand requirements, and then add ONE of the arrowed techs (if there are more than one).

If you are correctly understanding this, then can you attach a screenshot?
