    Issue #2
    What I did between 2.2 and 2.3
Took windows off the second monitor, told video card to ignore it. Since I was now running only a single screen, I cranked up the resolution in game, full screen, to 1600x1200.
    SIDENOTE:Man oh Man that ROCKS!
6 hours, of game play later no problems, then the screen went blank and a leaderhead window in diplomacy blanked to white on me a couple times. two turns later I was in negotiations again, whole screen went to blank, music stuttered, and then HARD REBOOT. Yes that's right. Crash to BIOS. (Again, this could be my video card sucking too much juice, but this isn't the behavior I expected). I rebooted, and checked the GPU core temp in the Nvidia App, and it was rock solid on 35C Nowhere near the panic temp of 145C it defaults to, so I can't believe that this thing was pulling that much juice.

    Issue #8
What I did: Changed Resolution to 1600x1200
What I saw/Heard: Intro video played perfectly, intro audio started cutting out 1 second of every 3. (Sigh). At least it runs.

FYI - I am reporting these problems not to complain, but rather to offer problem documentation to help Firaxis solve these problems.

    That's all for now -

No, it's definately an ATI issue. Many people with those cards, even with top of the line and the latest drivers installed have been reporting problems. Firaxis even has a thread over at CivFanatics trying to deal with the issue.

People used to do it with stone axes, you shouldn't require bronze ones. I guess that's one thing I'll have to mod, if I even get the game that is. I'm not impressed with these ATI problems.

It "forces" you to make a strategic choice.

Maybe not teh realistic but good for gameplay.

                  Nor am I.

However, deforestation needs a bit more than a few people banging on trees with stone tools, no?

                    Minor bug:

Most of the time the mouse-over help text does not show up for me. Annoying but certainly not critical.

The game also locked up once. I believe it was going to play a vid, but I'm not sure. Locked the machine hard, had to power cycle it. After rebooting I played for several more hours with no vid glitches at all (other than the mouse-over help text bit).

                    AMD64 3800+, 1GB RAM, nVidia 7800GT

Pretty pleased with it so far...

                      Bug with Science F6 screen

I made the 4000 BC turn as Mongols, then I forgot to choose the advance to research.
similarly as in civ3, a message box appeared asking/forcing me to select a technology when ending the first turn and going to the second turn. There I was given specific techs, but I clicked the first choice, which is:
                      What is the big picture

I have a TFT laptop flat display 1400x1050. However the hardwer is minimal requirements, so I am running the game at 1024x768.
Additionally, I chose the option NOT to stretch the image, so I have large black margins on my TFT, where screen is not used (mouse cannot go there...)

The science screen popped by the message box in 2nd turn, however showed alligned to physical lower right corner as on the attached image. You can see black margins, white area used by the game and green rectangle showing how the F6 screen was shifted to the screen part not used.

I think this is something in the code, that does not take into account possibility of no stretch of screen option available in some notebooks. Thus screen was aligned there. I could not close this F6 screen. F6 button did not toggle it. opening other F screens did not help, I just saved the game CTRL-S and quit by alt-tab-del killing the process.

EDIT: Actually, as I think of it, it is more like the other way around. The F6 screen is drawn onto displayed taking into account the whole 1400x1050 area, and initial scren coordinates: LEFT,TOP are adjusted accordingly, only that when it comes to drawing of the F6 screen, they are like doubled in value. The effect is this "alignement" in lower right corner.
Can you detect in the code relative placement of the 3D screen to pixels of the "physical" display?

I have ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 AGP with installed Omega driver:

I think it is not a major bug, but its just a bug.

In the tutorial when Sid explains things to you, you come to a point where cities are involved. He say's to you "now that we have built a barrack in Rome, we can concentrate on things like..."
Well in the German Version you've got subtitles. But the name of the city is spelled like this "$%D2...."

It is really a small bug because Sid is telling the right name, but I wanted to tell you this.

                          Issue #2
What I did between 2.3 and 2.4: Crashed again (with a few turn warning. The cloud layer was corrupted on a zoom out, and the game crashed within 3 turns. I then cranked the resolution down to 1280x1024. Played for another hour or so, then got corrputed clouds. saved. tried to quit, but before I could quit the entire Nvidia driver program crashed. (all the while the music was going in the background). So, I've ruled out the dual monitor as the cause, and I've ruled out 1600x1200 as the cause. It still happens on single monitor at 1280x1024. I will try again tomorrow for a while at 1024x768, but that's not really acceptable. This is a Civ game. Surely a 128MB 4x agp video card should be able to play this at the now standard resolution of 1280x1024. (By standard, it's what mainline LCDs are being manufactured at)

I will also investige the power supply issue tomorrow, if I have to duct-tape the bigger powersupply to the side of the case and drill a hole for the power wires to pass through.

                          Reporting from the frontlines...........

If you missed it - Setup = 1.8P4, 1024 MB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6200 w/128 MB ram, 8xAGP in a 4x AGP slot.

Oh and the opening video is still stuttering audio and video at 1280x1024.

Thought this one was interesting (caught it at CFC)

If you select to have the units Auto-promote (in the Options menu), you lose the info pop-up windows when you hover over city improvements. Deselect it, and they come back.

Ati do provide drivers for some of their mobile chips now (they did not in the past, but they have started with the last few releases).

It seems like the 5.9 drivers are availeble, but not the 5.10 drivers.

                                Minimum Requirements??

I would like to point something out:
An earlier thread told us who have these crashing problems that if we have minimum requirements to expect minimum performance.
I have a minimum requirement computer, as best as I can tell, but by minimum performance I expect choppy sound and slow performance, not CRASH AND BURN before the game can even get to the first turn! This is non performance, not minimum performance! I'm sure many of these same poor saps like myself with these problems can agree with me completely.
If these are the results we can expect with "minimum" requirements, then the minimum requirements should be changed, otherwise thousands of us will be looking for our money back.
