With the death of the Captain of the Flying Dutchman, Maccus became the new Captain, and demanded another council to determine who was responsible for his death. The opinion was highly divided, with some accusing Jack of the kill given his own debt to Davy Jones, and others accusing Elizabeth Swann for the rose left in his pocket.

With two killers on the island, and the rain not letting up, the council was held on board the Dauntless, where they could all be reasonably dry. Commodore Norrington was aghast as his love, Elizabeth was sentenced to death by the stake as had Calypso. They managed to get the fire going through the use of pitchblende which would not be extinguished in the heavy rain. He along with Will attempted to intervene, but their votes and voices were in vain.

Again, as they had killed another innocent lady, Jack continued with his premonition, that they would all die on this island rather then escape. After the council, each retired to their own ship to keep shelter from the cold rain.

Jack pondered with the rain whether he ought to start trying to repair the Black Pearl, and again risk his crew. Last time he let someone search for wood on their own it resulted in the death of Cotton, one of his longest and most loyal serving men.

This time, he split his crew, with Marty the dwarf repairing the ship along with Will, while Pintel and Ragetti searched for more wood together. He hoped that this would deter any assassin from killing more of his crew.

All seemed to go well when Maccus showed up with some information of his own. He had long suspected one of my own crew as responsible for the death of his Captain. He asked Jack whether he had sent Will Turner, given his skill with a cutlass and one of the few who could kill Davy Jones in straight combat.

Jack took that argument very personally and suggested that Maccus should draw unless he wanted to obtain the same fate as his former master. He shoved his nose in Jack's face and insisted that as the new Captain of the Flying Dutchman, that his soul was his unless I repayed the debt owed to Davy Jones all those years ago.

Jack had been so distracted by Maccus, that he failed to notice Ragetti returning with some wood. He asked him for the wereabouts of Pintel, and he said that they got separated in the bush and that he believed Pintel was right behind him.

Jack immediately sent out a search party in vain. Again at the end of the day, he found the bloated body of Pintel, by the torches still alight in the rain. He had been keelhauled, as had Cotton.

Jack again suspected a member of the Dauntless, but who would do such a despicable act? He had so many enemies on board that ship, that the only question was who wasn't wanting to kill his crew one by one.

After speaking with Will, he remarked that Marty had one more clue that he had spotted. When Maccus came down, he thought he saw one of the crew skulking around. Searching the nearby area, we came upon a core of a green apple left behind by someone earlier that morning.
