Decided to get on with the main quest last night, and had a suprisingly good time.
I found a special little area inside the first gate and whooped up on some Daedra and got a really excellent magic sword. Excellent name on it too, something Penance of Pestilence or something.
The design in the tower inside the the gate was very atmospheric and a bit creepy.
Afterwards, made the long trek to
Spoiler:The Cloud Fortress or whatever the Blade headquarters is called.
All i can say is, AWESOME design factor. Absolutely love the look there. Some really nice books to read as well. A few that, so far, appear to be unique volumes.
Also got side tracked on twoSpoiler:Deadric Shrine quests
On the second quest, I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings while gathering some herbs and got gangbanged by a wolf and a scamp at the same time. As a pure mage, I am very squishy so I ran blindly. Right into a bear!
[name that quote]A bear there was, a bear, a BEAR! [/name that quote]
Used a cheap terrain trick to force the bear and wolf to get blocked by a rock, while I could still fire away with my fireballs. Killed the bear easily, but the wolf kept managing to dodge. Finally killed him to great cheers (from my imaginary gallery). The wolf tumbled down a hill...
...right into a troll! Which speed up the hill and killed me. =(
As it was two in the morning, I thought the was a sign that I should go to bed!

In Cloud Ruler Temple, there is a book called Modern Heretics. Do not under any circumstances sell or destroy this book. It's needed for a quest later. I've heard of many cases where people have bugged their main quest line thanks to this, so I thought a warning was in order.Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

I've heard of people that haven't been able to find the book from the shop after selling it, after they've get to the part where they need it. MAybe an npc has stolen it or something.
When it comes to destroying, my head was not working right. (I've been having that all morning now.)Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

It seems that items you sell actually disappear from vendor lists now.
The No Psychic Guards mod:
Read the description first.
I'm very impressed by the mod community (again), there are already some new areas released, I personally love getting rid of the quest item compass, etc.
I'm actually amazed there's no option to trn off compass markers in the game. I mean, sure it's a nice idea if you are really stuck or for some people at all times, but not having an option to turn it off is dreadful. I didn't like walking through the wilderness and seeing the locations of any caves or any other points of interests.
Yesterday, I was on a quest to find a cave in a roughly specified location. I knew I'd recognize the cave shortly after entering, though. Without the quest markers, it was fun. I went there and started exploring, found one cave. Entered, saw it's the wrong one, still explored. Then found a second cave, entered, saw it's also the wrong one, and got out, because supplies were running low after the first one. Then I found a third cave and it was the right one, and I had a real feeling of satisfaction from finding the place. Having an arrow on my compass guide me to the right place would have been much less exciting.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

It wasn't even that hard in Morrowind to find locations on the map. Pretty much it was just that one cave the Ashlander guy sent you to go into to get his father's stuff that people had problems finding."Yay Apoc!!!!!!!" - bipolarbear
"At least there were some thoughts went into Apocalypse." - Urban Ranger
"Apocalype was a great game." - DrSpike
"In Apoc, I had one soldier who lasted through the entire game... was pretty cool. I like apoc for that reason, the soldiers are a bit more 'personal'." - General Ludd

Finally got into the castle..yeah!
I think my game got bugged up somehow, that is why I was stuck.
Spoiler:
When I tried to talk to the guard outside the castle bridge, no speak dialog icon showed up, only and icon to pick his pocket.
Upon reload, I was able to talk to him and he told me about the guard in the chapel with the key. Pretty easy from there, but don't know why the conversation dialog would not show up??
At least I'm past that part now.
I really thinking of restarting my character. I'm not happy with his magic skills at all (like 90 mp at lv 5) and he is not great in hand to hand either (although I seem to be getting better).
I think that if I customize the character, I might get more of what I want. We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

My new guy is a heavy-armor wearing, lock-picking, destruction-hurling swordsman. Much better

I ended up restarting last night as well. My first character was focused on speed, marksmanship, and restoration magic. These three things combined proved to be... pretty weak. Archery really doesn't it cut it in a lot of situations, and I got to a certain "must" fight in the main quest that I could not even start to win.

I'm similar. And my character is similar to the character I used my first time in Morrowind. Except I chose a preset class instead of a custom class. Redguard Crusader.
I like the focus on restoration, as I hate having my stats drained. Though you could always focus on alchemy and carry potions to cure stat drains. Or just buy potions. But those take up weight. I prefer just to cast spells.
And destruction is always fun.
So marksman isn't that great? I actually do better with a bow in this game than in Morrowind. I had a hard time aiming and hitting things with a bow in that game. Though I still struggle if it's a moving target. But if I'm at a distance, and the target is just standing there. He's dead. I also use it to draw 1 creature from a pack, so I don't have to take on large packs. Large groups still give my character trouble.

I did a premade as well (why not). Dunmer (ie, Dark Elf) Knight... born under the Warrior.
I mostly duke it out with my trusty swords (just picked up an Elven Shortsword in the 'Barren Cave'.. have a Silver Longsword that I apparently stole for killing ghosts). I tend to use Destruction a lot as well (firey spells). Restoration is also important (healing). And I'm a Journeyman in Alteration.. mainly to do a quest in Cheydinhal.
Right now, I've closed the first gate, went to the mountains, but instead of getting back to the Imperial City for the rest of the main quest, I'm trying to get to all the towns (and closing all the Oblivion Gates on the way, I've gotten 4 already... I haven't enchanted any of my swords, because I want to be an apprentice in armoring, so I can repair them with my hammers) so I can get Mage Guild recommendations and get into the Arcane University .“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
