I have restoration as my only Major magic skill, and it seems to very rarely go up in level. I cast a lot of healing spells on myself, and I think that now, as a level 6 character, I've only gained about 3 points in Restoration. Seems veeeeeery slow.

I think it depends on the spell. I expect the healing spells give you less of an increase than others. The college of Restoration includes a few other effects, like Fortify and Absorb attributes and skills. Those may provide more of an increase. Also, you earn almost no progress in a skill unless the use is meaningful. So, casting healing spells on yourself when you aren't damaged doesn't seem to count as practice. I kinda think they figured you'd do more healing than anything else, and so reduced the amount of increase you earn from healing to prevent Restoration from zooming way up. Personally, when I was practicing Restoration going for a skill level of 25, I used Fortify Fatigue as my spell to cast. It worked fairly well.

Sounds like the Dark Brotherhood are going to pay you a visit .

You can still be good, you don't have to join the DB.

              uhh, stupid question, but uhhhh...

              how do I cast magic?

I want to use a heal spell on myself and have it hotkeyed to 1, but I press 1, nothing happens, I press 1 for a few seconds and the hotkey ring appears.

              -very confused

Press 'c' to cast it. The hotkey just readies the spell. When you hold down any number 1-8, the ring will pop up. Anything (a spell or weapon) you click on from your inventory will then be put on that hotkey.

Of course, a number of us were running around selling poisons because they were just taking up inventory space!

That wasn't the problem for me, it was the price that I was offered for them. The weight of them is not that bad, but when you are cash poor....

I just "used" some last night, but it might have been a waste. Did it more to see the effects.

I love the "Do you want to put it on the arrow message."

Then the long range miss, cuz you stationary target decides to move at the last second.

Also the interface for getting your equipment repaired by someone needs help bad. I mean it asks me everytime if I want to repair the item. So an interface that makes me confirm 100s of times versus one that does not (and I make a mistake once...probably not that bad of one, by misclicking)....not good!
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

I've seen in video people throwing items, but I can't seem to figure out
how. Any help would be appreciated

Use the grab key to pick up items and move them around. I think it is Z by default. You have to hold the key down to hold on to the object.

You can throw it by moveing the mouse fast and releaseing the grab key.

You can also move dead bodies around useing the grab key to get them off objects below them.

Well I just entered the crab caves lastnight, and I was in there for ages. I entered about 4am in the morning, and finally exited about 7pm.

                                Got lots of stuff though

Am I able to fast travel to locations inside a cave? Because there were a few doors that had to be open by lockpick, but I had none on me, I would hate to have to go all the way back just to open a door..
