  • Loved Marksman in that game as you could (with acrobatics & athletics) get to hard-to-reach 'positions' in the terrain, both outdoors and indoors. Given that, you could then plunk away with your bow and defeat many (but not all) mobs. Seems harder to achieve that style of play in Oblivion, although I haven't played all that much so far.

I actually disliked that sort of exploitability in Morrowind and refused to do it. One thing is sitting high on a cliff, another thing is jumping on a rock where the AIs can't get because they're braindead.

Yea that was bad cheese. That's how I actually beat Umbra in Morrowind. After getting my butt kicked 20 times trying to go toe to toe I levitated myself up on a rock out of his reach and just sat there for 5 minutes plucking him with arrows until he dropped. Me bad.

        • Same here,

I restarted with a character more tilted to a mage. Made my own class instead of picking one, and went with warrior to get the strength bonus (to carry the loot).

My battles pretty much consist of me summoning some fodder and then just sending off the long range spells or if bored, shooting the arrows (especially if I get too many of those). Rarely do I need to use my sword.

I am now grabbing everything that is not nailed down and mixing potions with them. Then I sell the potions for cash.

Also been increasing skill by jumping and running everywhere I go.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

            Show off.

I will say though I was only level 5 at the time and my character wasn't much of a mage. But I just *had* to have that sword....

                  • How can you get +5's to level boosts, I'm only seeing 1-3 pts.

                    • Asleep - you have to have gained 10 levels in skills of that discipline. For example, 5 destruction and 5 restoration (totalling 10) will get you a x5 willpower multiplier.

Question for you guys. I cannot level my hand to hand skill. My strength is at at least 55. My H2H is at 31. It will not increase no matter what I try. It is a major skill. What I have noticed is that there is an icon on the skill that looks like the H2H icon with a 2 next to it. This does not appear on any other skill. Any idea how to fix this?

                      • I think that means you can hit with both hands? I have a 1 next to it, and a 8 skill level. You probably get a 2nd hand hit with apprentice (25).

Does you wearing gauntlets or not affect it?

I'd suggest getting a minimal conjuration (unless you're a conjuration skilled player) of like a skeleton or something, and summon it; then start hitting it. Do that for a while (keep resummoning them) - do this in a room where you can rest, of course. See if you can up it then It's a more controlled environment, and the skeleton can't really try to hurt you that much.

Ah, got it. So the idea would be not to level up immediately, but to raise up your minor skill levels to equal ten in 3 stat areas. Sounds a bit painful to me to try to do that consistently, but sounds like I need to restart.

                          • I don't really try to "powerlevel" for x5 in stats like I did in Morrowind. I'm taking a more layed back approach and just leveling up when I get the chance. I'm finding it a lot more fun to be honest and I still get a x2 or x3 in just about everything.

                            • I'm not power levelling. I still haven't found enough gold to even think about training. But I take the X5's when I get them. I think I've had one so far. And I think training is restricted, so I don't think you can get a X 5 from it unless you practice the skills as well.

I'm still undecided about luck. What do you guys suggest.

I always heard luck was pretty damn important, and that you should take it even if you only get X 1. But because I'm upping so many skills through practice, it means I have to throw away X 2's or maybe even a X 3.

                              • I wouldn't throw away a x3 for luck. When I make a custom class I usually select Luck as one of the two attributes for the +5 to it though.
