I'm thinking about getting the Diamond Collection thanks to my current IWD kick.

So is the online community still strong for Neverwinter Nights? Are there still any good 24/7 servers? Any recommendations?

Even if the servers are less populated, there are still tonnes of fan-made modules worth playing. (Unlike that Dungeon of Apolyton rubbish. )

It was pretty dead when I went there several months ago.

Maybe I'll load it up and check it out again.

          ACK!

The NWN games are really good, well, the x-packs anyway.

MP in persistent worlds is good, but limited to a few players. I still enjoyed Folderol for a good 6 weeks or so though.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll be picking this up as soon as my tax refund is in the bank.

How are the modding tools? One thing I can't figure out from the various fan sites is how outside area transitions work. Is it like Baldur's Gate with a map, or soemthing else?

The gameable is very moddable once you get used to the tools. I have no clue in this area, but Jam did a lot of the work for Folderol, and he can probably help.

All indoor areas are different sections and loaded separately (pretty speedily too). It is a bit like BG to be honest, but it works pretty well, and often monsters will follow you through portals to keep the fight going, rather than just stopping and waiting for you to return (fully healed ). You can close doors to neck potions though, but many monsters can bash them so you won't get long!

It was the outdoor transitions that I was curious about - that is, moving from one outside area to another outside area.

Likewise. They're all square areas, like in BG, and you have to load the next one when you switch between two. Unlike BG, though, there isn't a world map that you can use to travel quickly between locations a long way apart (or even check where you are), so you have to walk through each area individually, but it's never boring. As in BG, once you've explored an area then you can use the map to shoot over the other side of the map and set the walk-to cursor there, which saves a lot of time.

There are so many NWN threads here that I'm starting to think it is really a good game. I bought it last year (a complete package with the original games and the x-packs) but never bothered to install it. It seems I should do it now.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

                          Definitely!

(If you like RPGs with plenty of fun, and some pretty good graphics )

A second definitely here. Play the X-packs first though, as the original campaign is definitely weakest.

Thanks DoY. I was curious as I'm hoping to take advantage of the modding tools. Can't wait to get this.

I'm too lazy to use the modding tools, but they are pretty damned good, and the quality of the fan-made mods available at the NW vault is testament to that.

(All right, when I say lazy, I mean I was unable to work out how to put a door in the wall of the room I'd created. )
