  • I'm happy with the game that is the subject of this thread, and will be happy to discuss other games in their respective threads.

I love NWN because I used to enjoy playing D&D and AD&D with my mates when I was younger so it makes sense to choose one of the many games based on those rulesets.
Furthermore, I have no interest in PvP and prefer co-operation and roleplaying with whichever character I have chosen - which is why Folderol is ideal for me.

    • Guild Wars is a good game as long as there are new things to discover. It gets quickly old afterwards. If you aren't into GvG, this game is good for 4, at most 8 weeks of entertainment (maybe more for a casual player). That's the explanation why there is no monthly fee. After this time, you have "seen it all" (at least nearly) and it's time to move on. I played 2 characters through to the end (2-3 weeks each) without running, and I lost my interest with the 3rd halfway through.

WoW per se is a good game, but it is designed for 14 years olds, and that shows in both graphics and main audience. It's not for me, but YMMV.

        GW is PvE too.

However, you're right you wont get much RP. You could play with Ralph though.

I don't really agree with either point.

I've had more than 8 weeks from GW in PvE alone. I think it's the best tactical RPG I've played and I wanted to play all classes and lots of builds.

And WoW seems to have quite a wide range of ages playing it.

          • I didn't say elder ages don't play it. I said it is designed for 14 years old. Some of the older can bear it, some can't. I can't, you most likely can - if you think Guild Wars is a great game, you will like WoW. I don't find GW great. As game it is so-so, the plot is rubbish, the quests (well, most of them) subpar, the number of equipment slots a laugh, and it has serious flaws in game mechanics. It shines only because it is free. I doubt that I can get back to it even if the XP comes out.

I chose it over WoW (which I also had in the drawer the time I started it), because there were only 2 months between my demise from EQ2 and the release of Civ4, and I decided, that this is not enough for a true MMO game (which WoW is, unlike GW). Had I known that Civ4 flops, perhaps I would have chosen WoW.

            • Hmm. Server reset in 5 minutes. Think I'll wait a while before going back to Folderol. Even though my connection seems to be absolutely terrible today.

              • I played a bit this morning and had horrible lag spikes. It's funny to see your character freeze for 15 seconds, and then slash his opponent to pieces in 2 seconds, though.

                • It's not just Folderol for me though. The entire interweb has been a bit knackered for me this evening, but here goes nothing again - I'm going to try to log onto Folderol!

                  • I can join for an hour, but I warn you, I am tired to hell and my mood is not the best (as you probably can see in my post above ).

                    • Sorry Sir Ralph, but I got one too many lags and just gave up. I reckon it's my connection, but others seem to have had similar problems recently.
Sorry to abandon you to the evil otters!

                      • I killed a couple of bear+otter groups, they're not difficult solo and give over 300xp each group, which is not bad. The loot sucks tho, but if I need money I go to other places.

                        • I'll be back on Thursday night I think. The FA Cup quarter finals have been inconsiderately moved to midweek, apparently something to do with England having an extra week to prepare for some meaningless trip to Germany this summer, so my Folderol time is being cut back.

                          • Well I played a bit tonight after watching the footie (not a great game, but 7-0 was a good laugh), and have finally worked out where Dwar Proper is. Being of elven blood then I don't fancy my chances of getting much out of them, but it'll be fun trying! Unfortunately, still only at level 10, then I'll need some help to get the third page.

                            • I didnt even find the start NPC for the 3rd page yet. I know where Dwar Proper is. Is it there?

Btw, woot, I just got my invitation for the beta test of Vauguard Saga of Heroes. Registered kind of late (didn't follow the hype a few months ago) but nonetheless got in. That'll limit my free time for other games somewhat.

I put high expectations on Vanguard. It's made by a few renegades from Verant (the maker of original Everquest, before it was raped by Sony). Following the announcement, it will be a MMORPG for hardcore fans, no cheap powergaming, you earn hard what you own. I'm pleased with the announcements so far. Now let's see how it plays out.

                                Yes.

                                ACK!
