Wow, I just slide across the recommended specs ... given I thought I was making a pretty good rig, that's sort of scary. (3800 X2, x800GT) Technically not 3Ghz, but it's obviously better than that

No. It requires at least a GeForce FX card, or radeon 9000. Good thing either of those can be obtained for less than the price of the game ...
