Main details:
Blountberg Southern RR extended into Bubble Junction.
Bypass built between roads to East Central and Bubble Junction to accomodate traffic between those two cities without interrupting local traffic.
Bus system instituted.
More development.
2nd Coal plant added.
Lotsa pollution...
Mergdale has experienced a boom, where the population has trippled in only six months. The Mayor has agreed to allow Missle Silo to be built on the eastern peninsula to help stabalize the budget, and three new wind generators where constructed to support the new population. But two problems loom over a rapidly growing Mergdale - a lack of any waste managment centers, and a rapidly increasing demand for energy. Perhaps there is a neighbouring city that is interested in selling energy, or buying Mergdale's garbage.
Traffic flows smoothly along the new Blountberg Bypass. The road skirts around the southern and southwestern parts of the city limits, keeping the through traffic between East Central and Bubble Junction away from local traffic.
Regional growth has resulted in new demand, and farmland is being replaced with new residential growth.
An overview of the main part of the city on January 1, Year 10.
Mergdale '06, when the city was really begining to fill out and had reached a population of 8000:
Not long after that, the first sky-rises started to be built:
This allowed the population to boom even further, and the city services soon became overwhelmed. The teachers at Mergdale Primary went on strike, demanding better facilities. So a loan was taken out and a largder school was built (a hospital was built around the same time, aswell):
Mergdale '10:
The population has now leveled out at around 20000 (ten times what it was five years ago) and the anticipated problems of energy and waste disposal have not yet been a serious problem. But with high-tech industry and sky-rises being built, they soon will be. The biggest problem in Mergdale right now is a lack of prisons. There is talk about a bridge being built to the eastern peninsula, where a prison and industrial complex could be built next to the missle silo.
The military-industrial complex explodes (oops) with growth.
At area 51, the army tests superweapons with which to blow up the Mergdale mayor's mansion for placing the missile testing silo so far away from civilization. :grr:
I, too, can handle your garbage, Osweld. Far better than that Atragon. You know how he gets rid of his garbage? He shoves it down baby seals' throats. I will build a state of the art recycling center for your garbage.
(Plus I've got some leftover electricity too. That is made with the cleanest coal in the world. As opposed to enslaving hamsters to run wheels hooked up to generators, like Atragon the evil Earth killer is doing.)
And my garbage disposal is far superior, the seagulls that feast on the garbage then impact my evil wind turbines thus imparting energy to the whole cycle.
Seriously though, I'm behind the 8-ball, I grew too fast and this has screwed me over, I constantly have massive R and I demand... but high wealth keeps moving in, dropping the capacity of my nice high and medium density R zones with police, fire, education, and health coverage.
And because of providing all these nice services... my budget would have been in the red, so I took out loans... and now the loan payments are putting me in the red.
I would lean towards "no". But regardless, you should wait and see how your city fairs the next turn. Other people's growth can do alot of good (or harm) to you.
