Appeal To The Entire Alpha Centauri Forum

Where on Gods green earth can I buy and download this expansion off the internet? I am guessing a legitimate copy would solve my problems . Can anyone help me on this? I've just re-formatted my HD & have Norton Anti-Virus installed with auto-updates so I don't suspect any more virus threats. What I do suspect is JAVA runtime, Macromedia flash, " " Shockwave, DX8.0, and Yahoo IM. Possibly Norton AV itself. I am going to next uninstall much of this software.

    Sincerely,

    jwpeek

Its not possible, its completely out of print. SMAX is now distributed by EA, except they're not selling it anymore. Now legit downloads either.

        Hey Peoples,

It doesn't look good for my spot in this SMACX -"Who are the furlings?" game right now. If I could ask for just two more days (Friday Nite -EST USA) to resolve this conflict with my copy of SMACX and my PC I will let you know if I will remain here as Maia of the Angels or check out any 'SMAC only' PBeMs. I apologize for any time lost amongst you guys.
I've included the unplayed Maia 2109.zip.

            It's official

            Hey Guys,
It's official. I can't justify anymore time spent on this. My PC just won't accept my copies of "aliencrossfire". I am bowing out of this thread completely. My CD of SMAC works great and I will ask any of you at this time if they need any players in SMAC only threads. Again, any apologies in advance on this technical difficulty.

            Regards,

6 days is not a cause for replacement.

Suggestion: run the installer in compatibility modes.

Well. I just checked my PMs. Replied by PM to PJay. Replied to Detrius via email provided. PJays link is 404 currently. But I just told him now.
I send most of my files via Yahoo IM and am looking into trying my Trillian software after it flaked out on me. The forum has responded kindly there and I've got to get back to them. My only hang-up is Trillians web-cam shortcomings. I'd rather use Yahoo IM. I informed Detrius that I d/l another copy of SMACX from bittorrent. 4-6 sources and still the same Xdfe53.dll problem. It's a .dll that's ( i'm deducing) commonly stored in the "my documents" folder of Win98SE (my OS).
Of which, I have a bona-fide $139.00 store bought disc. ..crooks. If anyone can tell me what these "compatability modes" ( mentioned in Senethros post) are, I will try again but don't aim to delay anymore turn tracking.

$139!!!!! I hope you live in Canada. I picked up alien crossfire for £20 off ebay and a re-release of smac for £5.99.
Compatibility modes are a feature of windows XP.

                    • Senethro,

Let me re-phrase that. My copy of Win98SE op. sys. was over $100.
If you gave me an RPG/XBOX bundle then I'd pay that much for a game. hah!

                      • Maia, one possibility that has arisen from similar issues occuring when installing on a friends comp is that your unzipping utility is out of date or maybe just crap. Try using winrar or ultimate zip (google for them) to unzip the aliencrossfire.

                        • compatbibility modes:
in your explorer (when opening the game file) right click (instead of double left clicking) on the file, select properties, select compatibility, select "run in compatibility mode". try all possible settings, though i dont think any of these will work.

google for "winzip" download version 6.0 shareware (or higher?). google for "winrar", download newest version. try to unzip SMAC/X with these two newer version programs. might help.

Xdfe53.dll sounds like a windows problem.
that file is not part of SMAC/X, so i suppose its part of windows or one of your windows programs.
i know you already tried, but: close every single running program, above all: anti virus and firewall.
do you know how to deactivate the built-in windows firewall?
eventually, you should only see the system clock in the lower right corner of the windows start screen.
you dont necessarily have to delete these programs. just try to close them. if you dont know how, hit ctrl alt del select the tab processes then find names that could correspond to the program(s) youre looking to close. right click and end process.
worst thing that can happen is that you lock-up your windows and have to reset.

P.S. whom should i crush with you leaving?
did i say "crush"? well "befriend" of course :ahem

                              Hey folks,

Thanks for all of your support. I will need it very much in trying to get the larger, full-version of Alien Crossfire in harmony with my fickle PC.
But for now, PJays link saved the day and I am grateful for all the pitching in to get me out of the mud and back on the road!
