    HELP

    Senethro,

    I opened my save and the first thing I hear is "turn complete". In addition, the turn complete button is pulsing, indicating that it's finito.
    I determine whether my original moves looked any different and they didn't. They all had the 'G' flag on the player pieces.
    So I pressed turn complete thinking that's what i needed to do to to get the player pieces blinking again. I never thought to use the 'V' command.
    My problem is that I did not enact any change on this turn and it's now the Morganites turn. Help.

    -maia

    P.S. Also, I don't know how you guys load the .sav into the game, but I just throw it into my 'save' folder. (The only one I am hoping)
    *Instead of re-doing everything with the furlings_maia_2103.zip I just got I am sending the unzipped and "played" .sav. Tell me what you need.

      About the turn complete: maybe your units with orders all moved, or none moved. I don't know, but you should know if they were 1 cell or 2 cells away from their starting position. If 2 cells, they all moved and you did play your turn.

      If you are unsure, you can always re-play the turn, but that ofcourse requires you to save the game with a different name each time (like I told you a few times yet: save it as furlings-PJay-2103). The other players will get a message about your reload though, so don't use it to get different battle-results or different podpopping-results.

      So, do you want me to continue from the turn you attached or do you want to replay your turn?

      I usually don't give my units any orders, and just move them every turn (at least in the beginning of the game).

      When I play a turn, there are usually 5 stages :
      => pre-turn diplomacy
      => move units
      => check each base for growth (drone control)
      => check each base for production orders / hurrying
      => post-turn diplomacy

      How I load my games :
      => save the zip in a dedicated folder (C:\temp\smac pbem\furlings\)
      => unzip there
      => launch the game
      => do the turn (as per above)
      => save in the same directory, with a different name
      => zip
      => email

      For this to work, you need to have these 2 lines in your AlphaCentauri.ini (so you get a windows file-loading dialog instead of the in-game one):
      WinsFileBox=1
      WindowsFileBox=1

      I don't understand why you don't want to zip/rar your games? I gave you the link to winrar.

        Thats a bug that I've experienced twice before, Maia. I'm uncertain as to its cause. You just have to reopen and replay the turn and leave an explanation for other players as to whats happened.

          Thank-you PJay- Senethro

          Hey guys thanks,

          I combined the advice. I unpacked the zip from Bearhugger and replayed it from C:/temp/smac pbem/furlings. I slapped those commands in my alphacentauri.ini but perhaps in the wrong version (SMAC). I didn't get any pop-ups upon loading. I'll re-tool later.
          I just want to get my end taken care of so we can roll.
          PJay sjould have the finished turn, newly renamed, in his Inbox.
          Thanks for all the great support and it looks like smooth (solar) sailing from here.

          in gratitude,

            Oh also, anybody recall any good threads on 'efficiency'. I just don't plain understand it. I've seen resource shortfalls inexplicably (forced sale of buildings) and very few times, explicable. I need to read up on it if I am going to make a compromise. I may or may not go with "planned".

            thanks,

              Population starves when a base gathers negative nutrients and the nutrients stored in the tank fall to zero.

              Units disband when a base gathers negative minerals and the minerals stored in its production box fall to zero.

              Base facilities short out when a faction is in a period of very low or negative energy while having high facility maintainance costs. I think, anyway. I've only once been in the position of having low energy and have taken care to see it doesn't happen again.

              Personally, I recommend you go with planned and build your bases tightly. A low efficiency rating will prevent bases far from your HQ from gathering energy. However, in the early game while your bases are all close to your HQ (4 tiles or less) you probably won't notice any energy loss at all and you'll get +20% growth and +10% industry for free.

                If this is PJays email addy:

                pieterjan DOT busschaert AT gmail DOTcom

                then it rejected my last email w/attachment (turn) to him.

                Permission to replay turn 2103.sav for the 3rd time?

                Rebut?

                Sincerely,

                'maia'

                P.S. Thank-you, Senethro, for oyur post on 'efficiency' and will consider th e "planned" advice.

                    GMail rejected it because you made .rar instead of a .zip I know, it's stupid GMail's fault, nobody can do a thing about it.

                    You can create a .zip file with winrar too:

                    right-click the .sav
                    choose "add to archive..."
                    change archive format to ZIP (it's at the left side, in the "general" tab)
                    hit ok

                    BTW: the funny thing is, you forwarded me the failure email (with the rar included), and so I still received it

                    So, turn is on, but next time, use ZIP format instead of RAR.

                          Oh, and another thing:

                          In my turn, maia made contact with me and offered a treaty. This shouldn't be possible, as we clearly haven't met each other on planet yet. I didn't accept it ofcourse, but I don't know what the other players will do / did, so I hope everybody plays fair and doesn't sign treaties / trade techs / ... before meeting each other on planet.

                          This is a setting you can change in the file alphaX.txt :

                          change

                          1, ; If non-zero, humans can always contact each other in hotseat/email games

                          to

                          0, ; If non-zero, humans can always contact each other in hotseat/email games

                              so is maia angel or gaians?

                                It is more likely than not that you will see the wrong faction colour and portraits most turns. This is normal. Maia is playing the Angels regardless of portrait.
