I hear yah... While I was one of the first to cheer on the decision to fire the Illini coach... we all saw how THAT TURNED OUT... sigh....

I was surprised to hear they fired him. Did this surprise you? I do hope it turns out better for you than it did us.

    • Unfortunately, Rutgers had a massive comeback to beat Maryland on Saturday... otherwise if RU had gotten blown out by Maryland there may have been a push to fire Flood and try to get Pellini . Would love him as the head coach of Rutgers.

      • Kingsbury is safe. He likes Lubbock and they like him.

        • Dunno why Kingsbury would be fired after almost shocking the world.

That would actually be a pretty good fit. Can't imagine Bo being too rough around the edges for Jersey.

            • The Scott Frost -> Nebraska rumors have already been swirling today, but it looks like it was started by someone trying to drum up support for the idea rather than actual information, as Frost said he hasn't yet been approached. I don't know, it seems a bit risky to me for a program with such a different offensive philosophy to hire an OC from another program who has no HC experience. Then again, maybe rolling the dice is what the Huskers need to do. As long as they allow Frost to focus on helping the Ducks with the National Championship, then more power to him.

Hoke is meeting with the new Michigan AD tomorrow. Dead man walking.

As for Pelini, a lot of Oregon State fans want him. In fact, some of them would take Muschamp over sticking with Riley.

              • Hoke is out ESPN is saying.

Hasn't Pelini had several problems at Nebraska with anger issues? I haven't heard of anything happening this year, but it wouldn't shock me if he pissed off the AD who didn't hire him.

                • Listening to some sports talk radio today, the consensus was that the candidate pool for high profile coaching gigs - both college and NFL - is extremely thin this year. It was further opined that this (along with somehow managing to become bowl eligible) is the main reason Tim Beckman is still employed in Champaign.

Which made me wonder, where is Ron Zook these days?

Turns out (per wiki) he's in Green Bay as assistant special teams coach for the Packers...

                  • TCU is three in the College Football playoff rankings. Highest they've ever been since they were co-national champs in 2010.

                    • Pretty surprising CFP committee ranking of the top 4 this week:

                      1. Alabama
                      2. Oregon
                      3. TCU
                      4. Florida State

Having the only undefeated team in the country at #4 is just... wow. They seem to be dinging the Noles hard for their slow starts and Winston's first half struggles.

                      Some observations:
                      • Ohio State/The B1G seems to be done. Wisconsin is only ranked #14, so no matter what the Buckeyes do against them on Saturday, it probably won't be enough unless more than 1 top 4 team loses.
                      • Arizona has been bumped up to #7, which means if they beat Oregon on Friday, they could conceivably be moved into the top 4 even as a 2-loss team. The committee loves the Pac.
                      • Baylor passing TCU now seems extremely unlikely, even if they crush KSU. The committee just doesn't seem to care about the head-to-head results much at all.
                      • Right now, the top 4 are grouped by geography: 1 and 4 are the two closest to the Sugar Bowl, while 2 and 3 are the closest to the Rose Bowl. Cynicism might lead one to conclude that the seeding is more about ensuring fan bases get to the games rather than the actual quality of the teams...

Nebraska runs a run-heavy spread offense (with a lot of no huddle) right now. It's not that different from Oregon's offensive philosophy, although they've never approached Oregon's pace.

Then again, maybe rolling the dice is what the Huskers need to do.

Nebraska needs to take a risk, since they can't compete with Florida or Michigan for the top candidates with HC experience. Nebraska needs to go for a coordinator or a HC from a non-power conference.

It couldn't be that One-loss TCU has the best loss (Baylor) out of all of them?

Hope we get you in the CFB playoffs. It will make all the trash talking all year worth it to finally get a shot at Oregon.

                          • I like the ranking. Florida State will finally blow it this weekend. Blow it, as completely blow it.

Well, now the rumors are swirling that Nebraska is going after Bret Bielema. How about that?
