    • UCLA/USC failed to be competitive, the Bruins blew out the Trojans 38-20. Washington just beat Oregon State 37-13, so again no drama. UCLA is definitely the favorite for winning the Pac 12 South now.

There really weren't any significant upsets today. Ole Miss was the only top ten team to lose, and the argument could be made that they were way overrated and the Arkansas victory isn't so surprising. Otherwise, only #25 Minnesota being #23 Nebraska was an "upset," but barely so, and it wasn't exactly a game with national implications.

Given the general maintenance of the status quo, there won't be any change in the CFP committee top 4. Ohio State probably had the best week overall in terms of improving its case w/ the committee, in spite of the slow start against Indiana. Ripping off 28 straight unanswered points is impressive no matter what. Maybe Baylor, only because if they keep winning, they win the Big 12.

Actually no, they don't. They would be co-champions with TCU assuming both win out.

        • If TCU dropped last week due to non-blowout win, so can Florida State.

I don't think they really did, they just got jumped by Alabama since the Tide beat #1.

The committee is already getting massive flak for not having undefeated FSU as #1, and for not having undefeated Marshall even ranked. The cynic in me says they're listening to criticism and won't dare drop FSU any more so long as they keep winning. I wouldn't be surprised if they're shifted back up to #2 if they win the ACC championship game.

            • A bit of a yawn of a week:

              1. Alabama
              2. Oregon
              3. FSU
              4. Baylor
              5. TCU
              6. Mississippi State
              7. Ohio State
              8. UCLA
              9. Kansas State
              10. Arizona

Next 5: Some ordering of Michigan State, Arizona State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Wisconsin

Ole Miss is out. Like, very out. Getting blanked 30-0 by Beliema's Arkansas--despite it not being quite the upset the rankings show--is death to being ranked. It was never close. The victory over Alabama seems more and more a case of the Tide just having a really bad day on the road. Mississippi State's playoff hopes take a hit, as Ole Miss was a needed marquee win for them to remain in the top 4. I think the Rebel slide will give the committee an easy out for not having 2 SEC teams in the playoff.
I still don't have a clue as to who #4 will be, if all of the current top 6 teams win out. My gut is still saying Baylor.

              Pac 12:

              Oregon (10-1):
had a bye this we... oh wait, that was last week. This week, rolled over Colorado 44-10. Next week, into the baffling graveyard of top ten teams that is Reser Stadium in Corvallis. Mariota: 24 for 32, 323 yards passing, 3 passing TDs, 0 INTs, 73 yards rushing, 1 TD rushing. Broke the conference single-season TD record. Passer rating for the season is 185.2, 9 points higher than his nearest competitor in FBS and 14 points higher than the closest Power 5 QB. His career rating is 170.86, 2nd most in FBS history. His total QBR is 91.8 for the season, which is the highest in FBS. And, it must be noted, he's racked up these stats while sitting out the 4th quarter in the vast majority of his games...

              UCLA (9-2):
Three wins in a row against USC. The Bruins own L.A., and are the clear leader of the southern division. Now they play Stanford, whom they haven't beaten since 2008.

              Arizona (9-2):
Last week eked out a win at home due to fluke mistake by unranked Washington. This week dominated ranked Utah on the road. No idea what to think. The Territorial Cup against ASU next week will be the biggest one in ages.
              Arizona State (9-2):
Good recovery game, although starting off sluggish against Wazzu in the first quarter portended disaster. But the Sun Devils roared back, largely thanks to forcing a slew of turnovers.

              USC (7-4):
Still 7-win Sark. USC's championship hopes are destroyed. Boo-hoo.
              Utah (7-4):
Utes haven't suffered a loss that painful since the Black Hawk War.

              Stanford (6-5):
The Cardinal finally got back to form: running the ball and stifling the opposing offense. Too little, too late, but it should give them hope against UCLA next week.
              Washington (7-5):
Good news, everyone: The Huskies didn't even have the chance to inexplicably blow a win, as they trounced the Beavers easily.

              California (5-6):
Bad loss to Stanford. Have to beat BYU now to make a bowl. Won't likely happen. Still the most improved team in the conference, though.

Oregon State (5-6): Oh, you upset a top ten team last week? That's nice. This week you got drubbed by an unranked foe. And your only chance to make a bowl game? Beat the #2 team in the country.
              Washington State (3-8):
After being up 21-7,ASU outscored them 45-10, including5 turnovers that led to 5 TDs. Turrble.
              Colorado (2-9):
Colorado surprised the Ducks by starting the game with an onside kick and recovering it. Cute. Losing by 34 points was also adorable.

TCU did better outside of the Big 12 than in the Big 12.

                  • Interesting thing is that Sagarin has Florida State at 16 and Arkansas at 17.

Arguing that TCU should drop because Florida State dropped has no basis. TCU is actually a good team. Florida State is not.

Sagarin has 4 Big12 schools in the top 10. Kansas State, TCU, Baylor, and Oklahoma.

The top 10 is 5 Sec teams, 4 Big 12 teams and Oregon. That's it.

The hardest non-SEC schedule is West Virginia's so far. (due to having to play 4 top 10 teams!).

                      1. Alabama
                      2. Oregon
                      3. Florida State
                      4. Mississippi State

                      5. TCU

Hey, Marshall is finally in the poll. Looks like the committee got the message. Well, one message, at least.

Texas really should go for this on their own 21, but they'll probably punt.

Now it's over. 3 scores down, 5 minutes on the clock. But it looks like the Froggies ain't done yet!
