Year 2 was a douchebag move. He "only" gets $1M in salary but he gets a $3.5M signing bonus that year. The reason that year is special is because the CBA comes up for renewal, which means there's potential stoppage. If there's stoppage (strike, lockout), he gets paid **** in salary. But he'll always get that signing bonus.

Smyth trade may be reversed.
It was originally for Brule, but that was called off because he was injured (you can't buy out injured players).
The Oilers than offered up Colin Fraser, and the deal was done. The problem is LA just found out that Colin Fraser is injured and needs surgery (4+ months off), so they can't buy him out.
