  • Ben: Your disingenuous post is based entirely on suppositions and total disregard for the facts of the matter.

Kolb did not "win" the starting job over Vick; it was handed to him in spring of 2010 when the Eagles traded McNabb. Reid was also on the record that Kolb would be his starter at the start of training camp as well.

Then Kolb got hurt in Week 1 and Vick played lights out, basically forcing Reid to stick with the hot hand.

Even if this happens, it's means little. We're talking the NFC West where the 7-9 Seahawks made the playoffs last year.

I intuitively think Kevin Kolb is pretty good... until I was reminded of how respectable AJ Feeley had been. Now, I'm wondering if Kolb is yet another Andy Reid-produced mirage.

Regardless, Mike Vick is worlds better than Kolb and gives the Eagles the best chance to win in the short-term (the next 2-3 years).

          • How is this post supposed to make any sense? Vick didn't lose 'that other game' (what the hell game? The Giants-Eagles game that I have stricken from my memory?) so why are you taking it from him? Then if you have him going 7-4 and Kolb going 2-3 that's 9-7 combined. What do you mean that would translate to a 10-6 season?
He didn't win that game. He lost that game and then got bailed out by the KR.

I have him going 10-6 over the entire season, no Kolb whatsoever.

And how the **** do you know what Vick would have done in those games Kolb started?
7/4 and 3/2 are the closest match. It's most likely that Vick would have gone 3/2 in the games that Kolb played, and 7/4 over the games he did win, giving him a season total of 10-6.

How is that supposed to make sense?
It's the most likely outcome. 10-6 is more likely than 11-5.

In reality Vick gives them about a half a game advantage over a full season over Kolb. Is this important? Yes. Is this sufficient to warrant franchising him? No. Is this sufficient to get them a Superbowl? No.

Sounds to me like he won the job. Vick did not show in training camp that he was good enough to take the job from Kolb.

                • Kolb was given the job in April 2010 when the Eagles signed him to an extension after trading McNabb. Michael Vick was on the back burner, playing for the vet minimum as backup and occasional Wildcat QB.

                  Kolb gets one-year extension
                  The Philadelphia Inquirer (www.philly.com)
                  Thursday, April 29, 2010

Kevin Kolb and the Eagles have agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2011 season, the team announced today.

In the span of three and a half week, Kolb has been named the Eagles starting quarterback, welcomed into the world his second daughter and received a contract extension.

"It's been a good month," Kolb said. "Named the starting quarterback, contract extension and, of course, the baby. It's been a whirlwind."

Kolb is set to earn a guaranteed $12.26 million over two years, most of it in the form of a signing bonus, according to his agent, Jeff Nalley.
                  ...
“We’re happy to have Kevin under contract for the next two seasons,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement. “When given the chance, Kevin has proven to have good command of this offense and we’re looking forward to having him operate as the number one quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.”

Kolb was named the Eagles starter on Easter Sunday, April 4, the day the team traded Donovan McNabb to the Redskins.
                  Kolb gets one-year extension
                  April 30. 2010
                  ESPN.com news services

The Philadelphia Eagles have given quarterback Kevin Kolb another vote of confidence, extending his contract by one year, the team announced Thursday. The deal is worth $12.26 million, all of it guaranteed, over the next two seasons. Included in that sum is a signing bonus of $10.7 million, a source close to the player told ESPN.com's Matt Mosley.

Kolb, who became the Eagles' starting quarterback when Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins, was previously under contract through the 2010 season.

"I'm not trying to prove anybody wrong, I'm trying to prove this organization right for making this move," Kolb said in a news conference. "I know there are a lot of expectations. When you get an extension and you get the starting quarterback position, regardless of where you're at, there's a lot of pressure and responsibility."
                  ...
"We're happy to have Kevin under contract for the next two seasons," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "When given the chance, Kevin has proven to have good command of this offense and we're looking forward to having him operate as the No. 1 quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles."

His emergence made McNabb expendable, and the No. 2 overall pick in the 1999 draft was traded to the Washington Redskins earlier this month for a pair of draft picks.

"It will be a different feel but, at the same time, it feels right," Kolb said. "It feels right to be the starter, it feels comfortable being out there doing the different things, running the practices that we're running right now together."

The Eagles also have Michael Vick on the roster. Vick played a limited role in short-yardage situations in his first year back in the NFL after sitting out two seasons for his role in a dogfighting operation.

This move guarantees there will be no competition for the No. 1 spot in training camp.

                    • ...and yet you manage to ignore them.

Here, for example, you are using Reid's coachspeak statement in support of Kolb, attempting to represent it as a "fact," basically because it supports your opinion. Yet just for the past couple pages of posts, you were dissing Reid as a coach, because his decision to go with Vick as his starter in 2011 doesn't support your view.

You are a disingenuous jerk, and you lose the thread.

                      • Sorry, but your own source doesn't support your argument that Kolb couldn't carry the offense. Unless of course you don't have absolute faith in Andy Reid.

If Reid is wrong here, then why would he be right about Vick?

                        • I never said Kolb couldn't carry the offense, only that Reid chose Vick over him for 2011, and that it's a supportablle decision.

                              Excuse me?

Andy Reid is probably the best QB coach in the NFL right now. You're talking Brett Favre's ****ing QB coach for a few years... you're talking the guy who discovered and developed a 6th round pick rookie sitting on the bench behind Favre... Matt Hasselbeck.

The workout, Matt Hasselbeck remembered, came on a raw Massachusetts day, complete with the usual winter double-team of snow and sleet.
Hasselbeck threw a little bit for the Green Bay Packers assistant coach, the only NFL guy who deemed him worthy of a look after his final season as Boston College's quarterback.

But mostly they talked. They talked about the plays the coach drew up on a blackboard. They talked about a snippet of film he had watched, which showed Hasselbeck hustling downfield to recover a teammate's fumble.

A few months later, the Packers used a sixth-round draft pick on Hasselbeck. Three years later (three years spent caddying for the seemingly indestructible Brett Favre), he became a Seattle Seahawk. In the seven years since he has developed into an upper-tier QB. And in the estimation of coach Mike Holmgren, this is ''his best season so far.''

That Hasselbeck owes a debt of gratitude to that former Packers assistant -- a guy named Andy Reid -- is obvious. As he said on a conference call Wednesday, ''Without him, who knows what I'd be doing right now?''
In fact, in every edition of Madden that came out over the last several years, having Andy Reid as your Head Coach boosts the accuracy and awareness ratings of your QB's.

EVERYONE ****ING KNOWS ANDY REID IS A QB (and passing offense) GURU!

He can't manage the clock or time outs, is oblivious to certain rules such as overtime ties, can't win an NFC championship game or Super Bowl, doesn't know what it means to run the ball... Andy Reid has a lot of faults but developing QB's is not even close to being one of them. It's his greatest asset.

Maybe cause I live in Philly, I get everything biased... maybe... could someone who isn't Ben confirm that Andy Reid has a reputation for developing successful (at least in his system) QB's?

3-2 in the games Kolb played...

I call bull****. More like 4-1... and even if the Desean Jackson punt return (IT WAS A PUNT RETURN, NOT A KR!) never happened, Vick is still 8-3 because he would have won that Redskins game in which he got hurt.

                                Let's break it all down!

First of all, the 20-27 loss to Green Bay in week 1 would have been an Eagles victory with Mike Vick playing more than one half. Kolb's abysmal 5-10 for 24 yards in the entire first half left the Eagles down 20-3 before Mike Vick took the field. Vick led the Eagles to 17 more points in the second half and put them only a TD away from a win. Mike Vick plays the whole game, they probably win.

Mike Vick was hurt in the first quarter of the 12-17 loss to the Redskins. Kolb plays a terrible 5 Y/A checkdown game. You really think Mike Vick who, a few weeks later, throws 4 TD passes and runs for two MORE TDs against these same Redskins, would have suffered a 12-17 loss? Mike Vick doesn't break his ribs, Mike Vick wins that game in a blowout.

Kolb's 13-14 loss to the Cowboys in the final week was a joke. Kolb threw 3 INT's in this one point loss. No way does Vick lose this game.

So even if we take away the Desean Jackson punt return, Vick still is 8-3 in games he starts since he sweeps the Redskins if healthy. He also pulls off the Week 1 win over the Packers and the Week 17 win over Dallas.

Vick is healthy the Eagles go 12-4 or 13-3 with Desean Jackson's PR. Hands down. No way does Vick lose 12-17 to the Redskins or 13-14 to the Cowboys. No way does he lose to the Packers in Week 1 if he plays a whole game.
