NFL - Are You Ready For Some Football?! - Off Season
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
"Hating America is something best left to Mobius. He is an expert Yank hater.
He also hates Texans and Australians, he does diversify." ~ Braindead
Seriously when do you guys usually start this (the poly fantasy draft)? Last year I said I would go in this year, and I would still like to, but I'm actually worried about making a __________ (fill an appropriate Apolyton fool here, I had a couple in mind but hate to target anyone individually) of myself by showing how little I know about Football by my picks. I hope there is a mock draft on yahoo so I can try out my strategy before hand and not just go in blindly. You would think this is for money the way I am nervous.
Actually on a serious note, I am gone for 5 days in early July with no internet access, so I may be out regardless if you start that early.
Please let me know, I'll be cramming for the test until I hear.

I can't even imagine having a fantasy draft at this point without there having been free agency.

"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi

Not as early as Sloww would like. (Serious answer: early august-ish)

It's ok if you're crappy so long as you're active the entire time so it's fair to everyone playing you.
You could slog through the DST and IDP threads from last year to see how people drafted. There's all sorts of experts out there with lists of "best" players and whatnot. ESPN and NFL.com also have mock drafts. Personally, I find the less research I do the better my team ends up being.
Well we did have a very thorough discussion early in last year's D/ST draft about the importance of QB's. Jaguar's QB-first strategy steamrolled over everyone and most of the teams with winning records also snagged a first round QB.

I remember you going on a diatribe about the QB point system overvaluing QBs that throw a lot of checkdowns and dump-off passes.
Yes. That was after the fact though. I noticed that mid-way through the season when Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger had virtually identical days in yardage and TD's but Roethlisberger did it on half as many pass attempts. Brees (had he also not thrown 3-4 INTs) would have had double the fantasy points of Roethlisberger who obviously had the better day if he could get the same yardage and TD's on a lot fewer pass attempts (stretching the field).
It was screwy because it valued volume over anything else.
A guy who throws for 200 yards on 35 completions is valued in that fantasy format more than the guy who throws for 200 yards on 15 completions.

Do you really want to start calculating QB's yards numbers after deducting Yards After Catch and count receiving numbers as only Yards After Catch?

YAC is not an officially tracked stat so that is not feasible.
I just don't see how you all are cool with the guy getting 200 yards on 35 completions getting more fantasy points than the guy who gets 200 yards on 15 completions. It's clear to me which QB is better in real-life.

Cause we don't have autism like you. That's how we're alright with it.

What is that supposed to mean?

And it's really in there for accuracy tracking, it's just that incomplete passes aren't penalized enough. 35/50 is pretty good especially for that amount of passes thrown and should be like 20 points (1 point for completion, -1 for incomplete) , (15/30) is not as good regardless of yards thrown.

IT means that you get hung up on abstract ideas because they don't fit perfectly with a perception of reality and you find it your life's duty to thoroughly inform them of why the abstract is wrong.

35/50 300 yards: 15 points for yards, 20 points for completions; 35 points
15/30 300 yards: 15 points for yards, 0 points for completions: 15 points
Was the first performance really over twice as good? No.
Or for equal accuracy... both 60% completion guys but one guy throws a 6 Y/A while the other guy throws an incredible 12 Y/A
30/50 300 yards: 15 points for yards, 10 points for completions; 25 points
15/25 300 yards: 15 points for yards, 5 points for completions: 20 points
#2 is clearly the better QB by an order of magnitude. He had twice the Y/A!
