When Testaverde threw for 4000 yards in 1996 it was the first time he had reached 3000 yards in a season since... 1989 ( peak my ****ing ass)

Sorry, but I watched Testaverde for oh-so-many years. He was the QB you settled for -- not the one you wanted.
Career QB rating = 78.8. Frankly, if he wasn't a #1 overall who threw a nice deep ball, he would have washed out of the league after his first contract. Threw more INTs than TDs in every one of his first six seasons, and in 11 of his 21 years overall. Some think he was mediocrity personified...
There is no athlete in the history of sports who embodies and epitomizes mediocrity in the same staggering way that Vinny Testaverde did for 21 years. Every single facet of his being is mediocre. The statistics, the obscure records, the rare yet completely merited awards are what distinguish the big “Green Head” as the world’s most mediocre athlete.Last edited by -Jrabbit; February 15, 2011, 22:28.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

So in the Beniverse mediocre = very good. Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Ben Franklin

10 year average of + 3000 yards and 5 years of +3600 suggest that the 'fluke' label is unwarranted.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

The more I look at Testaverde, the more I think he should be in the hall. He's come out on top of the entire list of folks here.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Testaverde's career average of 2200 passing yds is hardly impressive. Or to be more precise, 198.4 yds per game.
And what the **** does Bert Byleven have to do with the NFL?!Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Ben Franklin

Your use of statistics = FAIL.

Esiason - 202.8
Cunningham - 186.2
Simms - 204.0
Testaverde played longer and his average is either as good or better than this group.
198.4 is good for 40 all time, and 21st among retired players.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Testaverde played longer than just about anyone.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

Oh my god...
Signature addendum right there"Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Some facts about Testaverde:
Record as a starter: 90-123-1 (.420)
Number of winning seasons in 21 years: 4
Playoff appearances in 21 seasons: 3
How many more career touchdowns than interceptions thrown: 8 more touchdowns than picks
Int % (% of attempts that were intercepted): 4% (for comparison... Rex Grossman: 3.6%; JaMarcus Russell: 3.4%; Derek Anderson: 3.8%)
Career completion %: 56.5%
Career yards per attempt: 6.9
Career QB rating: 75.0
Jrabbit, I'm getting 75.0 from pro-football-reference.com; it looks like you got 78.8 from wikipedia but whoever made that page was a ****** and took the straight average of every season's QB rating."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Aikman and Sims won Super Bowls. Cunningham wasn't as prolific a passer because he ran too - and won over 60% of his games.
I don't know what Boomer Esiason has to do with anything. Both he and Testaverde were losing QBs.Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Ben Franklin

You can tell yards per game is not a proxy for talent when you look at who's up there!
#8 all time... Marc Bulger 237.8
#15... Daunte Culpepper 230.0
#20... Jim Everett 220.5
#23... Aaron Brooks (AARON BROOKS!) 217.9
All four of those guys threw for more yards per game than Joe Montana (#27) and Steve Young (#44).
Clearly yards per game doesn't mean jack."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Boomer came just 34 seconds and Joe Montana magic shy of a ring himself.
Boomer was also the 1988 MVP. MVP's count for something, right?"Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Ben has to be doing this for kicks and giggles. There's just no way. He's got to be over there laughing at us (and especially me) taking the time to respond to his inanity."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi
