No, it's just that you weren't really listening to the rest of us. It's like saying Sandy Koufax is one of the best pitchers' ever for 5 great years (note: he isn't). He may indeed be on his way, but if his career ended tomorrow, I don't think he'd be considered such.

Exactly... I don't think anybody has questioned his skills or said he sucks... just that it's a little too early to sum up his career yet. Heck, he could start sucking next year for all we know. And while I don't think that will happen, 5 years just isn't enough to make the "greatest or one of the best" calls.

I think we can say that for the past few years, he's been the best or one of the best... but that's about it for now.

You can be one of the best ever on six great years, like Brees has; Steve Young and Staubach are among the best ever on seven great years. At positions other than QB, we're happy with even, say, 4 great years. (Earl Campbell, for example.) Brees has already had a Hall of Fame career. His raw productivity through eight years already matches that of, say, Troy Aikman. Essentially, your complaint is that it he did in eight years what someone like Aikman did in twelve.

Brees does just fine relative to other quarterbacks of his era, thank you very much. In the 19 years since Brett Favre was drafted, there has been only one quarterback better than him. It's insulting to call Brees anything other than a generational talent.

Look at their career arcs. It's unfortunate, but the sad truth is, time passes. While there are exceptions, QBs tend to become experienced, while RBs just get used up.
