I was looking for that picture, couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks, LA.
Interesting week ahead; lots of potential upset games.
Miami and Georgia Tech kick it off tomorrow night to decide the early frontrunner for the ACC, a position equivalent to valedictorian of a class full of retarded kids.
But potential trap games abound:
Ohio State vs. Toledo at a neutral site (Cleveland)... Toledo racked up over 700 yards of offense against Colorado. Okay, it was Colorado, but you do that to anyone and it is impressive. After a heartbreaking loss to the Trojans, the Buckeye D better be ready to run.
Michigan vs. Eastern Michigan... An almost exact mirror image of last week's MSU-CMU game. A cross-town(ish) little brother with a chip on its shoulder, but instead of a star QB the Eagles have a head coach who was defensive coordinator at Michigan for several years, and worked with many of the kids still on the team.
Boise State at Fresno State... The Bulldogs are one of those teams that always seem to be dangerous, especially at home. People expect the Broncos to go undefeated, but this is the game that could trip them up.
North Carolina vs. East Carolina... Look, I'm not sure how the Tarheels got ranked in the first place, and the Pirates retain much of the personnel that pulled off a couple big upsets last year.
Cal at Minnesota... The Gophers are terrible. Really, really awful. But the Bears are habitually overrated, and Minnesota can be a tough place to win on the road. This has "trap" written all over it.
Nebraksa at Virginia Tech... It's too early in the season to know exactly how good these teams are. They could be really good, or really average. After a tough week for the Big 12, the Huskers could win some respect back, especially for their rightly-maligned North Division.
Oklahoma vs. Tulsa... Hard to imagine Oklahoma losing two games against non-BCS teams, but Tulsa is coming off a great year, and they can rack up points just as quickly as BYU.
Utah at Oregon... Utah is the ranked team, but Oregon is the 4-point favorite here. Are the Ducks really as inept as they looked against the Broncos? Are the Utes still among the elite after losing a sizable chunk of last year's undefeated, #2 ranked squad? This will be maybe the most interesting game of the weekend.
Cincinnati at Oregon State... Again, the unranked team is the favorite (1-point). Unlike Cal, Oregon State is a habitually underranked team, consistently rolling up 9 and 10 win seasons over the last several years. This is a major test for the Bearcats--pull this off, and they'll have more than a few new believers.
Florida State at BYU... FSU lost to Miami, nearly got upset by a middling I-AA team, and now has to travel to BYU. The Cougars are only favored by 7 points in this one, despite having home field, a top ten ranking, and beating the mighty Sooners. Given all that, the Noles will likely win in a blowout.
Georgia at Arkansas... Another ranked team is a 1-point dog on the road. An interesting game for those who care about second-tier SEC teams. I never know what to make of either of these schools.
Texas vs. Texas Tech... Have the Red Raiders reloaded for their scheme, or are they dogmeat in a revenge game? If nothing else, there ought to be lots of points scored in this one.
And finally...
Florida vs. Tennessee... Holy ****, the Vols are gonna get killed.
