I was only 6 in 1985. Technically in my "lifetime", but I don't really count things I can't remember.

They won in 1985, thanks to Don Denkinger...

I went to three of the games, and cried when the Cards lost. (I was 9)

My hatred of the Royals is only intensified by their poor management, cheap ownership, and the fact that they were broadcast in my hometown every night...

As for the Twins, you can imagine my disappointment when they WEREN'T contracted...

If the Twins can win the division, would there be any doubt that Joe Mauer deserves the AL MVP? Not that he isn't a great contender now, but MVP is all tied into team performance (and thus I think Teixiera is going to get it if the Tigers hold on).

In the NL, it's the bit easier. It's gotta be Chris Carpenter for Cy Young and Albert Pujols for MVP.

He still has a bit to go to catch Barry Bonds on the NL MVP list (though he is on the way)

It's going to be close. Do not underestimate the power of the NY media market (though with the Yankees, A-Rod may really by the MVP of that team).

How exactly are you measuring that? You know, considering that Mauer leads the AL in BA, OBP and SLG, leads in OPS+, 1st in Adjusted Batting Runs and Adjusted Batting Wins, 1st in Offensive Win Percentage, and 2nd in RC to Texiera (by 2), AND he's a very good defensive Catcher compared to a very good 1B that Texiera is.

Even if you conclude Texiera is more productive on offence (which I'd disagree with greatly), Mauer isn't that far, and is far more productive on defense.

Yeah, the jolt that A-Rod gave that team is nothing short of MVP worthy. I can say that I thought the Skankees wouldn't be worth a crap this year, too bad I was wrong...
