  • Your two conditions (the Vancouver and Edmonton records) could be met and Calgary still make the playoffs-- The only way Edmonton surpasses Calgary is if Calgary is 0-4 down the stretch AND Edmonton is 2-0.
Yes, but Vancouver also holds the tiebreakers against Calgary. Should they win both games against Calgary, they will only have to match Calgary's performance in the last two games.

This is what I was trying to get at.

    • Ben, don't you even bother pretending you're anything but a bandwagon fan.
I've been a Canucks fan since I was 4 or 5, loved the pumpkin orange and I still have a small kid jersey from back then with Petri Skriko on it.

You ignore this thread every year until the dying breaths of the season, and only if you think Vancouver is going to win the division.
Being a fan = posting in this thread?

No, it's more fun to post at the end of the season then at the beginning.

Then you display a profound ignorance of hockey in general which stems from the fact that you only watch hockey if the Canucks are playing and only when it's near the end of the season.
I watch them throughout the year.

I wouldn't call Calgary overconfident either. There's a supreme difference between overconfidence (see the Red Wings every year) and confidence in the team around you (Calgary) and panic (Vancouver
Red Wings have earned the right to be overconfident. Calgary is in a fairly precarious situation with 4 games to go.

I'm just pointing out that you don't seem to actively follow or discuss your team until the games "start to really matter". To me, that indicates a degree of bandwagonism.

I'm referring historically...how many seasons now have they been overwhelming favorites going into the playoffs?

Calgary is in a fairly precarious situation with 4 games to go.
You grossly overstate this case...Calgary can still technically make the playoffs with just 1 in out of 4. Yeah, precarious!

Again, why should discussion here = being a fan of the team?

Historically they are one of the most solid franchises.

Magic number of 3 with 4 to go? That's not in great shape.

I've no evidence that you follow the team outside of when you discuss it here. When you do discuss it here, you show a remarkable ignorance of hockey outside of your team and outside of the last month or so.

All of the pieces fit, Ben, you're a bandwagon fan. Which isn't too surprising, you kind of have to be in Vancouver since they don't do anything, ever.

Historically they are one of the most solid franchises.
Well, that is DEFINITELY arguable. If you go back far enough, you'll find they were NOT solid for MANY years.

In recent years, they were overwhelmingly the favourites only to be humbled fairly early in the playoffs. Calgary humbled them in 03-04, Edmonton in their year, etc.

Magic number of 3 with 4 to go? That's not in great shape.
It can still lead to reasonable confidence.

3 points in 4 games? Come on, Ben, if you think that is "precarious" you need a headcheck. Once again, ignorance about the sport.

COULD get you in if all the planets align correctly-- One of Vancouver and Edmonton MUST get to 88 points while the record you cite gets the Blackhawks to 89

its not quite that bad-- a single loser point for Nashville is allowed !! But no better than 0-2-1-- If Nasville dares win then the Hawks will need to go 4-0 to surpass them

So both of these NEED to tank-- a 2-0 Edmonton or a 2-2 Vancouver are both unacceptable and the situation is one of them is guaranteed ONE win

              So ya super possible

hey Ben want to do Phoenix's chances? lets seet --- the winner of Vancouver v Edmonto ties their best possible total etc etc
You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Asher you love the rhetoric don't you??

THat was a great great series-- I never thought of it as a humbling except to the extent that the Canucks were overconfident coming in

Ben just likes rhetoric too, same as you. It isn't that precarious given even a decent stretch run by the Flames

But Asher --it sure as heck isn't secure yet. I am hoping that comes tonight with a Flames win over the Canucks -- well here's hoping anyway-- Two points tonight would go a LOOONG way-- hell lets look at that

                    Flames win tonight?

                    Edmonton cannot catch them
the best the Canucks could do is a tie with the Flames and an identical record and win on tiebreak
Nashville at best can exceed the Flam,es by a point

It was humbling since Detroit was the overwhelming favourite in each series.

Of course it's not secure, if it was they'd have clinched.

As I've said before, I'm not overly confident in this team (I'm not expecting much even if they make the playoffs). But when the odds are in favour of the team making the playoffs, it's disingenuous to say their position is "precarious".

                                Burrows is a douchebag.
Kesler is a ***** and won't fight Iginla (see Ben, this is called playing with HEART).

I could not have predicted this...!
