Yeah, I'm not mad at the refs for that one.

I am mad at the refs for the Iggy goaltender interference call...Bryzgalov was completely outside the crease when Iggy backed into him, that is not a penalty nor should it negate a goal:
Rule 69(1): "Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease"

        • Ben's mighty Vancouver Canucks fall to Chicago...4-1 final. Vancouver managed a very-impressive 10 shots on goal all game.

As I always say . . . one game is just that one game-- otherwise we would be hearing about the Oilers 5-0 triumph forever . . .

But its not a good sign when a team gets so soundly whupped in the race for the playoffs. . . and there is quite a race ongoing-- The key will be how they rebound for the next game

              • One interesting point is that a team that is good at SO wins might be good not because of the 'skills contest' aspect of it, but because they have greater stamina than other teams, and/or have a better goalie than other teams. Both aspects help you significantly in a shootout; the former helps you score goals while the latter helps you not give them up.

Both, also, would be advantages in long OT games in the playoffs also, yes? And, would perhaps indicate the team would be less tired (reason one) by the playoffs? Or, reason 2, strong goalies are generally more significant in the playoffs than in the regular season.

Disagree completely. Shootouts do not depend on stamina. Further, "good goalies" in shootouts do not necessarily mean good goalies in game situations. In fact, the top 10 lists for both are usually completely different names.

Both, also, would be advantages in long OT games in the playoffs also, yes?
No, because they don't play any more long OT games than anyone else. They also don't have a good record of, you know, winning in OT...

I don't see why tiredness plays a role here, nor do I see shootouts as identifying good goalies. If that was true, Garon would be the #1 goalie in the league. He's 10-0 in shootouts.

                  • In every active sport - even baseball ffs - you have a degree of tiredness that begins to affect players as the season goes on. Certainly you can imagine someone playing his fifth game of the season would have more energy than someone playing his 85th, no?

Also, you would imagine a player with more stamina would be better able to make cuts and drive a hard shot in the shootout, after over an hour of playing, than someone with less stamina, no?

Finally, clearly goalies have some relevance to their teams' shootout wins. Perhaps not identical skills to a normal game, but certainly some subset of goaltending skill is measured at the ability to stop shootout goals. Again maybe it's stamina, a goalie gets tired over 60 minutes - though i'd noth think as much as a forward, but I've certainly never played the position so who knows - but there is some skill element here.

Yes, but playing in the shootout means they're theoretically disadvantaged since they've played more minutes.

Yes, clearly. But my point is goalies good in shootouts are not necessarily good in the real games. Same with forwards.

Sam Gagner is amazing in the shootout and invisible in normal games, for instance.

What do you expect me to do? Defend them after a **** performance.

I expect the Sedins to be benched next game.

                        • What do you expect from a team with such soft players? There's no deep playoff hope. You need grit and leadership. Vancouver replaces that with soft Europeans and douchebags like Cooke (yes, gone now) and Burrows.

It's easily the most hatable team in hockey.

                            Whatever dude.

At least I'm honest. They laid an egg in Chicago and the top line should be benched next game to get the point across.

Burrows BTW was responsible for the only goal so I know you are full of it Asher.

He's a cheapshot artist, not unlike Bertuzzi and Cooke. Vancouver mass produces douchebags.
