Dolphins | R. Brown fears he may have torn ACL
    Sun, 21 Oct 2007 18:01:44 -0700
Jay Glazer, of FOX Sports, reports Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown (knee) was on crutches after the team's Week 7 game. He fears that he may have a torn ACL. X-rays taken on the knee were inconclusive, and he will undergo an MRI Monday, Oct. 21.

And Zach Thomas wrecked his car after the game (he's supposedly ok, though.) Still, not a good Phin day.

    • Zach Thomas in fender-bender after game

Sunday didn't get any better after the game against the New England Patriots for Miami Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas.

Thomas and his wife, Maritza, were in a a 2007 Mercedes-Benz that was involved in a fender-bender on the turnpike in Hollywood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

      There were no injuries.

FHP was called at 5:26 p.m., a little more than an hour after the game ended. The Mercedes -- driven by Maritza Thomas -- had been rear-ended by a 2000 Dodge truck, said Lt. Perry Allen, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman.

Allen said the accident happened at mile marker 49 near the Hollywood Boulevard exit.

Thomas lives in Plantation, according to public records.

The driver of the truck, whose name was not released, was cited for careless driving.

Allen described it as a "minor accident.''

          • PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Pinned on the 3-yard line and out of timeouts, Chicago's final drive looked like a bust.

That was before the audio cut out on Brian Griese's helmet.

The only noise Griese heard was the sound of his own voice calling the plays, rallying the Bears and driving them 97 yards for the winning score in a 19-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

Don't count out the Bears quite yet in the NFC playoff picture.

"I felt really good calling my own plays in that situation," Griese said. "Before I got out into a 2-minute drill, I kind of look at our play sheet and get in my mind a plan of what we want to do. So I felt comfortable in that situation."

Griese did get some help on the final play that turned into the winning TD. He ran to the sideline with the clock stopped, then came back and connected with Muhsin Muhammad for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 9 seconds left for the stunning score.

"When we came out in the second half we pretty much knew that our season was on the line," Muhammad said.

The Bears didn't even need Devin Hester to bail them out with an explosive return. Instead, the final, thrilling drive was all Griese.

The Bears (3-4) started on their 3 with 1 minute, 57 seconds left and trailing 16-12. Griese completed a series of short passes over the middle that quickly gained yards after nearly 58 minutes of stagnant football.

Hester, the dynamic kick returner, had been shut down on special teams and was a non-factor on offense until Griese found him for a 21-yard gain that brought Chicago to the Eagles' 15.

Griese spiked the ball to stop the clock and found Muhammad on second down for the winning score. Griese was 21-of-47 for 322 yards. He was 7-of-9 for 97 yards on the final drive.
Interesting... the only drive of the day that resulted in a TD was the only series NOT CALLLED by Ron Turner

            • I've never understood why we don't go spread offense more often ... our TEs are good enough to go 2 WR, 2 TE, 1 RB, and then either run or pass with 4 recievers and Benson in pass protection.

              • Yeah... and Griese looked pretty good operating out of the shot gun.

On the Bears web site, the posters in the forums are suggesting that the fans bring jamming equipment to the next home game to keep Turner from telling Griese what to do

                    • In fairness, it should be noted that Griese was working from the play list developed for the game by Turner. He proved quite adept at carving up the "prevent victory" defense the Eagles ran, making some very nice throws with the game on the line. The final play was, in fact, from the sideline, where Griese went to confer after spiking the ball.

I don't know if this is an indictment of Turner. After all, it was his play list, and the Bears really dominated the entire 2nd half. But it sure was nice to see the no-huddle and shotgun formation being used effectively under duress. No way does Grossman pull that off.

                      • It's an indictment of Turner's play calling for three quarters IMO. There's no reason we can't do that all game, along with mixing in some rushes of course
