  • But...but...I thought Belichick was the first person to ever not kneel on the ball with a 30 point lead in the 3rd quarter? Does this mean he's not actually the herald of impending doom for truth, sportsmanship, and the American way? Somebody needs to alert Gregg Easterbrook before he makes a fool out of himself!

      • I was remembering Jerry Glanville, he said the N F L stood for Not For Long when he was talking to a Referee once.

I am all for a team putting up what they can, unless the other team signals Uncle, but until they do, I say stick it too them

perhaps a team will do the same to the Pats one day, then people wont be saying "They shouldn't have done that" most probably they will say the Pats had it coming, either way, standards will be adapted, right, wrong or indifferent.

I think the Patriots had every right to let it hang out, Big D, come stop them!!

        • People are forgeting that Washington came into the game boasting the #4 Defense in the league, so its not like it was easy to put up those numbers (but they did make it look easy).

            • From the Boston Herald

It’s getting more than a little monotonous around here. Another weekend, another local team running up the score against Washington.

              ...

OK, so a lead that had been 27 was whittled to 15 in the last quarter, but does that explain why Kevin Garnett was still in the game with a little more than three minutes left, throwing a pass to Paul Pierce for a layup? Or why the New Three didn’t leave the floor until just 2:30 remained on the clock and the lead was 23?

And what about Brian Scalabrine tossing in a trey with 1:23 left? Shouldn’t Rivers have called a running play?

And if Brady gets hurt in the 4th quarter while running up a lead, that wont be the first time thats happened either, will it? And if somebody decides that in such a situation, since theyre gonna lose anyway, to maybe blitz more and harder than they otherwise would, and take shots a little rougher than are necessary (but within the rules) that wouldnt be a first either, would it?

Youre gonna play in your face, at some point the whole league is gonna get in your face back.

Umm, I think thats why the Pats keep the score running up so much, because the league tries to counter, only for the Pats "A+" Game to show up

has anyone tried to counter? Do you mean the Pats started running up the scores after Spygate?

One columnist in the WaPo said, sure, the Pats can run up the score. Theyre entitled, as long as no one can stop them. But in the old days, somebody would have given Brady a scary hit, even at the cost of taking a 15 yd penalty.

If football is nicer now, if we dont tolerate deliberate injury endangering hits, should we tolerate what the Pats are doing?

If you remember correctly, I'm the one making the argument that they're not really making any unreasonable calls to run up the score, so no, I wouldn't find a retaliation hit necessary. I just find the hypocrisy of all the outraged players, fans, and media to be...interesting. Even if they were running up the score, it's something that has been done much worse by many others in the past (often times by the same people who are complaining about it now) and nobody has treated it like a scandal that was going to shake the league to its roots. Much like the whole camera thing, actually. It's just that people pounce on any opportunity to knock the Pats down a peg. Why, I don't know...

                      • I dont care if its an 0-8 club's QB or an 8-0 club's QB, unnecessary potential career ending hits are not clean football.

                        There is a difference.

You can hit a player and then you can H-I-T!!!!!.

One really cant equate this arguement, Nancy Kerrigan had a similiar situation years ago, doesn't bode well!! Tanya Harding was behind it, and Nancy kerrigan was doing well, she most certainly didnt seserve being clubbed in the knee

Did anyone say anything about Wilt Chamberlain or Micheal Jordan going on a scoring frenzy?

How about a pitcher throwing a no hitter?

How embarrassing (and I am assuming most people who were against the PATS going for gold are upset because of this) would it have been for the Pats to be Patsies? You know, just go through the numbers?

Did the Principle, Roger Goodell call a time out, bring Judge Joseph Wapner from the People's Court to mid field, hug Joe Gibbs, console him and then scold Belichick for not playing nice in front of the world?

I am amazed how people jump on this, most probably because the Vick thing is behind them, Spygate is warm-to-lukewarm and not much else to b!@tch about.

Mostly because they deserve it. Arrogant and annoying fans aside, Belichick himself seems to not give a crap about anyone else. He tried the camera thing like a who cares type of thing and now is deliberately trying to run up the score. Like LOTM said, in the old days this would have been dealt with perhaps a few borderline hits. That isn't exactly in vogue in the NFL these days, but it may come back for some teams that don't deal with that (I wonder what would happen if the Pats tried it with the Ravens).
