Sorry Jon Miller, it’s painful to see that

  • I’ve seen enough. The numbers are in. I’m calling it (for Canada at least).
Three vaccines and more to come.
The second half of 2021 will be normalish (yes, it’s a word).
And if President Biden shows actual leadership, the US won't be too far behind. Assuming he does, and ALL states act responsibly, I'll amend my prediction of 2,000,000 American COVID-19 deaths down to 650,000 deaths.

But we still have seven months of distance, masks, soap and winter (in Canada) to go. A hard transition for sure.

    You heard it here first(ish).
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

I think you’re making a good call. Looking at summer to begin the recovery and fall to clear it

    • It would be over much quicker if Trump supporters did what would be good for AMERICA and other AMERICANS by wearing masks and socially distancing AND taking the vaccine when it becomes available.

      • In a recently resurfaced video clip, Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said Democrats would call off coronavirus restrictions a week after a Joe Biden victory in the presidential election.

"If it ends up that Biden wins in November...I guarantee you, the week after the election suddenly all those Democratic governors, all those Democratic mayors, will say, 'Everything is magically better. Go back to work, go back to school.' Suddenly, the problems are solved," Cruz said in the July 22 clip.

        Meanwhile, in reality...

Even with 50% vaccination rate, covid's impact will diminish hugely.

Of course, long-term prospects hinge on how long immunity lasts, as well as how many people get it.

                • A better number would be to say 28% of Americans are under-insured/uninsured. Which means that, using our approach, to insure everyone would cost about 16260 per person.

                  • If we had a single payer that was allowed to negotiate drug and procedure pricing, we could probably insure everyone and keep the per capita to the current level.

                    • Easily. But the pharma and med industries have based their global business models on the current market inequities of the US system (Medicare not allowed to negotiate drug prices, separate pricing for the uninsured, etc), so the changeover would be extremely bumpy.

                      • Doesn’t something like 50% of US health spending come from 5% of individuals. How skew is taking a mean?
