Doing everything he can to screw things up so he can then blame it on Biden

While ignoring all the Americans are dying while he throws a temper tantrum
Its possible. Likely even. Still...glad to have the troops home.

    • Question though...why, at potentially the end of his presidency, change the heads of the military to loyalists, people he can trust? If Biden gets in he can just swap em to people he likes... This has been an itch I can't scratch. Its bugs me.

      • The economy is going to tank hard. Personally I see it as inevitable now. People who can are abandoning cities in mass. A great depression may well occur. Might be bringing home the troops to restore order in that case. The Northwest and New York, maybe Chicago, are jumping off a cliff defunding the police, the forces of order. All these things are happening. What is the purpose?

        • One, the economy might survive better than you think. A new stimulus package with keep the market going, and as the vaccine gets delivered, we can start actually maybe posting some more good numbers. Because of Covid, the market has a lot of upside and employment will only climb as well.
And I still laugh at the rants from the right about defund the police. Do you really think a major city will not have cops
Yeah, cities are going to be looking hard at the budgets and how the police spend money, but only total morons want no police.
And contrary to the rants of the Right, Biden doesn't support it either.

            • Even if things don't tank, the numbers are going to go straight down. Businesses closing, tax revenue...we couldn't pay our bills before. Borrowing all over the world. What happens if we lose a quarter of our tax base? Even a fifth? Closed businesses and cut workers don't pay taxes, how to pay the bills? Couldn't do it before.

Again, why change the military heads?

              • Businesses have already closed, massive amount of people are already out of work. But now, with hope in the future that we might be able to beat the virus, more business will try to hold on instead of just giving up like they have been doing.
Yes, there will be some BIG changes in the economy. And yes, Biden will put some of the restrictions back on businesses that Trump stripped away... The economy (even thought the stock market doesn't think so) is already bad and has probably more upside than downside right now.

Some of it was clearly retribution, specifically against leadership - including Esper - who announced last summer that the armed forces would not be getting involved in the election. As for the loyalists, that's just Trump's MO - demand absolute loyalty, reward absolute loyalty, install your known loyalists into positions that can help you, and screw everyone else.

Perceived lack of loyalty has been the core cause of termination of dozens of high level officials under this administration.

Yeah, I get that. However changing the military ahead of a potential change in the presidency is potentially very dark, or, could have a purpose we can't see. Or it could be punishing/rewarding. Ahead of a possible admin change, not much of a reward, enjoy your new office for a month? Don't think that is it. Possible, sure.

I've read articles describing it as "resumé rewards" for loyalists. Perhaps it's just that simple.

                  • Since Trump is supported by patriots, ex military etc, many of the soldiers themselves, I don't see a coup as the purpose. His supporters would be the ones revolting against him. Constitution and all that, sworn to defend...

I think he’s trying to use the current situation as leverage to try to cut a deal to avoid criminal charges. ‘I’ll end this in exchange for immunity’ type of deal

The firing of Esper is retribution for Esper speaking out against him when he tear gassed protestors for his lame bible photo op

That's a possibility...seems however that he doesn't expect to lose in the traditional sense. Seems he believes the election was rigged. I know perception can be misleading...but I see this going somewhere else, but where? I guess we'll find out maybe tomorrow? Have no real idea when.

US election 2020: Trump ally Chris Christie urges him to accept defeat

                    (...)

Speaking to ABC's This Week programme on Sunday, Mr Christie, a former New Jersey governor, said: "Quite frankly, the conduct of the president's legal team has been a national embarrassment".

He said the Trump camp was often discussing election fraud "outside the courtroom, but when they go inside the courtroom they don't plead fraud and they don't argue fraud".

"I have been a supporter of the president's. I voted for him twice. But elections have consequences, and we cannot continue to act as if something happened here that didn't happen."

He singled out for criticism Sidney Powell, a lawyer who appeared with Trump's legal team during a press conference on Thursday. She claimed, without providing evidence, that electronic voting systems switched millions of ballots to Biden, and that he also won thanks to "communist money".

But on Sunday the Trump campaign issued a statement distancing themselves from Ms Powell, saying she "is practising law on her own" and was "not a member of the Trump legal team".

A tweet from President Trump earlier this month explicitly named her as part of the team.
