    • Ben, keep it up with the mud slinging. I am in favor of human rights. Keep it up with the comment about tossing people out of helicopters. Last I checked your Catholic Church condoned Argentina's military regime that did that. They even had priests on planes reading people their last rites.

Reread my score. I was more socially left than you and that means more strongly in favor of human rights. But the test was severely lacking in many regards.

Some of the cloudiness in Pope Francis’s past has to do with his relative obscurity during the years when he was still known as Jorge Mario Bergoglio, …

For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

      • If I was in favor of human rights violations wouldn't I have scored somewhere in the authoritarian quadrant lol? First off, ask me questions about refugees, supporting the dictatorship in Saudi Arabia with bad arms deals (especially after such regime had a Turk murdered), the treatment of women in developing and developed countries and environmental justice.

In these topics, political compass was severely lacking. It just isn't a good test. It also has a severe right wing bias with the way certain questions are phrased. If you want to have a nonbiased test, try to not ask loaded questions.

Here is my score again for references sake:

        Economic Left/Right: -7.75
        Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.97

That just doesn't seem to be the score of someone willing to justify human right abuses like the catholic church did in Argentina.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the former Archbishop of Buenos Aires who was elected Pope by the papal conclave on Wednesday, was intimately involved in Operation Condor’s “Dirty War” in South America. A product of Chile’s DINA secret police and five other national security states in Latin America — Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay – Operation …

Complicit. And it wasn't just Pope Francis, but the rest of the church at the time.

Depends entirely on how you choose to define human rights. I'd argue that you don't because you reject the right to life of the unborn. By my standards, I'd have a hard time putting you above Hitler because his count was only about 6 or 7 million Jews.

There's been about 60+ million American children killed because of Roe.

          • I mean you *could* argue that the unborn aren't legal persons, but the Hitler argued that Jews weren't legal persons either... that didn't go over so well for him.

You could argue that your hair should not be cut... several religions do, but it would be a stupid argument, like most religious bs.

How many abortions happened before Roe? I am suspicious that Roe probably caused less than a 50% change. The most important thing to do is change hearts and minds and remove the need for abortion (by supporting women's rights, sex education, access to contraception and so on).

Prior to Roe, Dr. Nathanson has some interesting numbers. He used to run an illegal abortion clinic so his numbers are credible.

Former abortion-rights activist Bernard Nathanson admits that he and his cofounders of NARAL fabricated the figure that a million women were getting illegal abortions in America each year. The average, he says, was actually ninety-eight thousand per year.
Which is about 10% of the rate now which runs about 1 million per year.

Contrary to popular belief increases in contraception usage actually increased abortion rates. Both rates increased side by side until 1990 or so. The abortion rate has dropped some since it's peak in 1992, but less so because the proportion of abortions to births has changed, but because of larger demographic changes, such as the aging population, fewer women of childbearing age, and thus, fewer pregnancies.

Edit, in response to Sparky, official deaths were around 150-200 a year. Nathanson stated that a better figure would be between 300 to 400 a year prior to legalization.

You are a bloody fool. You don't care about kids afterthey are born. After they are born, they are ****ed. No health care. Your fascist party is even trying to cancel a federal health care program for sick kids with cancer.

The Catholic Church was also complicit with that.

Why? They were afraid of the spread of socialism so they backed these dictatorships, regardless of human rights violations. Same thing happened in Brazil (and could happen again if the fascist wins there - extremely low turnout allowed him to go to a run off).

The picture of Pope Francis and Rafael Videla says it all to me.

I don't consider abortion a need, unless possibly you got pregnant because of rape. I'm not opposed to allowing women choice in that situation.

But what you are claiming is like suggesting we stop making people need to mug people, because they are poor.

comment: I know that's unclear. I have a health issue right now and can't articulate.

Jeez... Take a break from the Internet for a weekend. Go take a walk. Or the beach if you don't live in a landlocked area.

You know what I did yesterday? I went to a concert festival... That lasted a whole six hours, featuring all time low and dashboard confessional. Great value for my money.

Took my mind off work and life for a few moments.

Take a break. This is honest, nonpolitical advice. Take a moment in your life and slow down.

                          Ah, the usual 'whataboutism'.

Still doesn't change my point. If you sincerely believe in human rights, why do you believe that it's ok to kill children in the womb?

How am I a fool? None of us would be here today if we were aborted. We can't exercise our human rights if we're not born. Right to life must come first.
